Did You Hear Newt Rip Mitt?

RUSH: Have you seen Mitt Romney being trashed by Newt Gingrich? You haven't seen this? Man, oh, man, this is... it's funny, it's fascinating, it's curious, it's a number of things. Newt Gingrich is really, really bugged that Trump is paying any attention to Romney whatsoever. Newt is calling Romney a suck-up. He's ripping Romney for sucking up to the president-elect.

Newt was on the radio the other day with Laura Ingraham. He said: "There's a scene in Pretty Woman where Richard Gere goes up to the salesman on Rodeo Drive and says: 'We need a little sucking up here.' You have never, ever, in your career seen a wealthy adult who is independent, has been a presidential candidate, suck up at the rate that Mitt Romney is sucking up."

What's going on here? Newt's obviously bothered by this, but what is it? Is it that Romney was so adamantly opposed to Trump, I mean, you couldn't find anybody more adamantly opposed to Trump. And you couldn't find anybody that expressed his opposition to Trump more specifically and more pointedly than Mitt Romney, and now Romney apparently has thrown all that aside.

That is upsetting a bunch of people. Some Never Trumpers don't like what Romney is doing simply because they looked at the Romney as their quasi-leader, the holdout here from the establishment resisting the allure of Trump. And now Romney has apparently thrown all of those criticisms aside and wants this job so bad. That's what Newt is saying.

But to just have it out there (laughing) that Newt's saying he's tired of seeing Romney suck up like this. It's... I don't know. Is it high school? Does it remind you of high school? It's kind of fun to watch this stuff from a distance. It wasn't through. "Gingrich continued to mock Romney, saying that he could have helped his dinner companions with the menu because he speaks French..." He was mocking Romney for speaking French at this fine restaurant that Trump took 'em all to. Trump took Romney and Reince Priebus there (laughing), and so he's making fun of Romney for probably showing off by ordering in French.

"'He could say: "Ahh, Mr. President-elect. This would be the perfect meal for you,"' Gingrich said. 'Something like maybe escargot, maybe pheasant. God, I'd love to have been there as a fly on the wall.'" Do you remember, folks, when it was learned that Newt had a $500,000 line of credit at Tiffany? He did. And what some of the critics are saying here is, "What is Newt talking about? Newt's acting like he's not an insider? Newt's acting like he's an anti-establishment guy when he's been part of the Republican establishment for who knows how long."

But I do remember Newt caught holy hell from the Drive-Bys. He bought his wife a half a million dollars' worth of jewelry at Tiffany back in 2006. I remember we defended him back then. "It's his money; he can spend it however he wants. If he wants to have a $500,000 line of credit at Tiffany, go for it," which he did.

Newt, on the off chance that Donald sees something in Romney that we don’t, that’s not a team-building comment, LOL.

Bernie held out for a $600K lake house. Inquiring minds want to know the price of Romney’s integrity.

Big Newt fan, here, but Newt may be going a little senile.

He is sooo negative and always shooting his mouth off trying to blow up someone. Half the time it’s becoming our own troops, criticizing even Trump, over minutiae.

He sounds like our version of an Elizabeth Warren. Give it a rest, Newt. Shut up.

Don’t let the hatred of your defeated foe cause you to stumble. This hating on Mitt is totally over the top.

Hell, save it for Hitlery, as she and her cronies need to be criminaly prosecuted and sent to prison. Mitt is a distraction.

Trump is a master strategist who knows the best performing teams are always full of creative tensions.

Look at both Washington’s and Lincoln’s Cabinets; plenty of tension and superb results

I expect that there are feuds and factions within the political ranks just as there are here on FR. Even with removing the trolls from the picture, there are people here who, though conservative, bicker with each other and disagree. It’s no surprise that it happens at the higher echelons of political power. In fact, IMO, it’s even more likely. These are a pack of alpha males angling for position and rank and power.

Maybe it’s payback for the way Romney trashed Newt during the 2012 primaries. Newt has nothing to lose and Mittens probably desperately wants a job in Trumps administration.

Washington and Lincoln didn’t have anyone in their cabinets who were working for the opposition during the general election. Mitt did. Even Democrat Andrew Johnson, who Lincoln made VP in 1864 was for the Union and anti-slavery. Trump’s big issues are trade and immigration—where was Mitt on those?????

Trump can multi-task. Romney deserves Newt's criticism. Romney didn't have to get on tv and before a host of reporters give them the red meat they desired and insult Trump. He could have kept his big mouth shut because to trash Trump is to aid and abet Hillary. There's no loyalty with Romney. He just needs to go away. Newt deserves an advisory role of some kind.

My remarks had nothing really to do with Romney. Can’t stand the man.

Newt doesn’t want a big job, beyond his “counsel”, I read.

Nevertheless, Newt has been sounding like a curmudgeon uncle 80 % of the time. It’s becoming a habit, and predictable.

Mitt will be anywhere you want him to be. He has no compass except the rent he seeks.

I love the look on The Donald’s face and the one on Romney’s face. Trump looks like he’s the cat that is about to swallow the canary and Romney looks like the canary.
