Senate Dems Pen Letter Indicating Fight Against Jeff Sessions’ AG Nomination

Senate Democrats are making it clear that Sen. Jeff Sessions will not have an easy time being confirmed as President-elect Donald J. Trump’s first attorney general.

In a letter addressed to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Democrats on the committee pushed for extensive confirmation hearings, indicating that they plan resistance, despite the fact that they referred to him as “a colleague” with whom they “have a personal and cordial relationship.”

The senators also requested that Grassley allow for outside witnesses to testify on Sessions’ track record on immigration, civil and voting rights, women’s rights, and government oversight due to his “extensive record” on these “important issues.”

Part of the letter reads, “[w]hen our country is struggling with so many divisions, the committee and the entire Senate must ask whether Senator Sessions is the right man to lead the agency charged with securing and protecting the constitutional and civil rights of all Americans.”

The letter was signed by Sens. Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Richard “Dick” Durbin (D-IL), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Al Franken (D-MN), Christopher Koons (D-DE), and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT).

Earlier this month, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) — one of Congress’s most progressive legislators — called on President-elect Trump to rescind his decision to nomination

President Trumps response — Eat $hit!!!

According to “the” Harry Reid, the Senate only needs 51 votes for Senate approval of executive and judicial nominees.

Thanks Harry!!!

A few of the slower-headed Pubbies like Goober Graham don’t seem to get it, but the fact is the filibuster is DEAD!

Harry Reid killed it. It is blatantly obvious now that had the Dems gotten a majority they’d be nuke optioning SCOTUS nominees.

It is surely dead the next time Dems have the Senate. If the Republicans don’t realize this and act accordingly they’ll have absolute hell to pay with the voters.

Grassley should tell the Dems to submit affidavits from anyone they please. If he finds them to contain relevant information, he’ll invite the person to testify. But he should not allow a circus of character assassination under the guise of hearings.

Not just McCain. The Congress is filled with RINOs. Our majority in Congress is quite shaky.

We don’t mind if they ride the bus, but they have to get in the back. Hey Dims, you don’t like it, go out and win an election.

Of course they don’t want Sessions. They’d like another corrupt non-white.

“The greatest happiness is to scatter your enemy, to drive him before you, to see his cities reduced to ashes, to see those who love him shrouded in tears, and to gather into your bosom his wives and daughters.” If only the Republicans would treat the Democrats like this.

Simply promise the Dems that the precedent set by Biden, Kennedy, Schumer and Reid will be continued.

I think all Republicans support Sessions and Dem. Joe Manchin has announced his support. That would be 53 if the Republican wins the Louisiana senate runoff December 10th.

The Dims might create a lot of bad blood with little benefit to come from their efforts to smear Sessions.

There was non. SESSIONS voted to confirm. There is a tradition of giving the president a good amount of leeway in cabinet appointments, as they are “his people.” Less is given in judicial appointments, as they are independent and in for life. However, we know how the rats feel about tradition.

Dingy Harry & his Dems got rid of the filibuster in 2013 when they ran the Senate, so all that's needed now is a simple majority.

GOP is in charge now, 52-48, and can steamroll the Dems. Sucks to be them.
