President Recep Tayyip Erdogan threatened Friday to walk away from a deal that has substantially reduced the flow of migrants to the European Union and also effectively end Ankara's membership bid by bringing back capital punishment.
Erdogan's warning he could open Turkey's borders to illegal migrants bound for Europe prompted an immediate objection from Germany that such "threats" were unhelpful.
Greece, which would face a heightened influx of migrants if Turkey made good its threat, also expressed "concern" at what it said would be "an act of aggression."
The Turkish leader's comments came a day after the European Parliament angered Ankara by backing a freeze of its EU accession talks, already hit by alarm over its crackdown in the wake of a failed coup in July.
"Listen to me. If you go any further, then the frontiers will be opened, bear that in mind," Erdogan told the EU during a speech in Istanbul.
At a later meeting, Erdogan reaffirmed he would sign a law bringing back the death penalty if it is approved by parliament.
"If the people say 'we want the death penalty'... and this goes to parliament and parliament passes it and it comes to me, I declare I will approve this," he added.
EU officials have repeatedly made clear that bringing back the death penalty would instantly end Turkey's bid for membership as abolishing capital punishment is a key precondition.

I worked in Istanbul prior to Erodgan’s first purge of the military. Yes, he is a Muslim jihadist pretending to be a friend of the west.
Send them all to Germany.
If Bulgaria and Greece fortify their borders, the land routes can be cut off. I read that Bulgaria has done this. Greece, of course, is a basket case, but the EU could help them out here if there was some will to resist.
My BIL, one of the best men I know, was born and raised in Turkey. His family is muslim, but he’s not religious at all. He hates erdogan’s gutz with surprising passion!

Turkey has let these people from Syria and Iraq into Turkey with the expressed intention of sending them on to Europe. Erdogan of Turkey is blackmailing Europe.
The solution is very simple. As these illegal aliens land round them up and ship them back to Turkey. Thus they become Turkeys problem that Turkey has allowed to happen. If necessary throw Turkey out of the EEC and watch their economy collapse.
That would work if there were some way to keep them there.
How about a Berlin Wall around Germany to keep them in?

Slight Correction to my post. Turkey is not a full member of the EEC but enjoys many of the economic benefits of free trade between nations of the EEC and Turkey. Economically they are tied very closely to the EEC.
It's OK. Turkey will still let former EU members into the Caliphate where a death penalty is a precondition. These things just work themselves out.
