Fox News is reporting that Donald Trump’s transition team wants Mitt Romney to publicly apologize for railing against the president-elect during the campaign.
A transition official told Fox’s Ed Henry that some in Trump’s inner circle want the former Massachusetts governor to apologize in order to be seriously considered for the secretary of State.
Trump is reportedly considering whether to pick Romney or former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani for the coveted cabinet position.
Giuliani is the preferred choice of Trump’s loyalists and grassroots supporters, while Romney is a favorite of establishment conservatives.
“It’s not about that I don’t care for Mitt personally, but I’m still very unhappy that Mitt did everything he could to derail Donald Trump,” said Trump supporter Mike Huckabee in a Fox interview on Wednesday.
“There’s only one way that I think Mitt Romney could even be considered for a post like that and that is he goes to a microphone in a very public place and repudiates everything he said in that famous Salt Lake City speech, and everything he said after that,” Huckabee said, referring to a famous anti-Trump speech Romney gave in March.

a course as president that some supporters set. So, if
he is willing to employ Romney’s services just who
else will have his ear? Some of us always knew that
was a possibility and some of us obviously didn’t.

Let him apologize if he can drum up some sincerity in it — and then let him just go away! The lazy loser gave us Obama 2012 when he didn’t even bother to campaign. His lazy style and Trump’s bombastic high-energy style are not compatible and they’d drive each other nuts.

Lots of folks want lots of stuff - it’s Trump’s ball and I think he earned our support as to whether he will pick the right person for certain jobs or handcuff himself with emotional baggage ... unless something goes awry without being quickly rectified, he has my full trust in matters of doing what he thinks is best for his agenda.

Trump appears to have moved on from the petty squabbles of the primaries and election. He will pick the person with the right skill sets most suited to the job. Trump has been hiring and firing people for a long time. Romney has some good skills but I just don’t think he will be SoS. Whoever it is it will be someone that can best sell his agenda to the world.
