In my own case, I especially enjoy listening to the big clear channel AM stations when driving at night. I used to listen to a lot of FM, but the audio on most has turned to mush (heavy, heavy compression of the audio.) I can stand some interference, etc., if I'm listening to news, a game, etc., but heavily compressed music just robs me of interest in the music...
The biggest problem I have with nighttime AM is still those darn Mexican stations that crash in at the worst times: Announcer: "State has tied it at 72. 5 seconds to go. Smith passes to Jones in the lane. He rises to shoot! He..." is drowned out by Mexican music. Me: "Agghhh!"
