Anti-Trump secessionists filed formal paperwork Monday launching their petition drive aimed at separating California from the union by first putting the issue before voters on the 2018 ballot.

A petition submitted by the Yes California Independence Campaign calls for repealing language in the state constitution that describes California as an “inseparable part” of the nation and holding a vote on independence on March 13, 2019.

You.Are.Talking.Like.A.Fascist.

Secession does not = War. Get that thru your O so thick skull.

There is (still)nothing in the US Constitution allowing or disallowing state secession. Nothing. The cowards amended the US Const. I think 4 times right after the Civil War but forgot to shore up that little "mistake".

I present facts to you, and all you have in response is name calling.

Good grief.

The northern part of the state can become the State of Jefferson when the rest secedes.

I'll have to remember to bring my passport the next time I visit California.

The fact is the state of CA has every right to kick FedGov off their land if they secede. Including military bases etc. Those 30 million people paid taxes too. It isn’t like they don’t have the right to ownership.

So dogma says. The reality is that unilateral secession usually leads to war.

We keep San Diego and San Francisco.

'FRISCO?
You want Frisco?

Also, better to give up San Diego and just turn the wall north at Yuma.

NOW: How do I start a petition demanding that, if their tantrum succeeds, the Republic of Kalifornia immediately provide restitution and relocation to those of us who will happily resettle anywhere else in the USA?

Do you realize that if California leaves the Union, the Pacific Fleet port in San Diego will be gone.

We have over 50 ships there and about 35,000 employees. It is the single largest employer in San Diego.

It is a warm water port, and couldn’t be moved to another port in California. You would have to move that fleet to Oregon and Washington, neither of which have the facilities.

The much further North ports are not warm water ports. The weather is not nearly as cooperative.

Our operations in the Pacific would be adversely affected.

What if different part of California disagree about kicking the feds off their land? Remember West Virginia. I think if California seceded part of it would counter-secede (i.e., rejoin the United States).

Exactly. An invader could easily gain a foothold in California and create a base of operations there.

Perhaps bona fide liberals could be offered moving costs to go to California and maybe a cash reward.

Geographically, most of California is decent. Just carve out a section of coastal malcontents stretching from northern Orange County to northern Marin county and extending as far eastward as Sacramento. Throw a fence around it and call it “Lefty Lunatic Land.”
