Pence confirms Romney is 'under active and serious consideration' to be Trump's secretary of state

Vice President-elect Mike Pence confirmed Sunday that Mitt Romney is in the running to be Donald Trump's secretary of state.

'I can say that Governor Romney is under active and serious consideration to serve as secretary of state of the United States,' Pence told CBS News' John Dickerson on 'Face the Nation' Sunday.

President-elect Donald Trump and Romney, the GOP's 2012 nominee, seemed to bury the hatchet at a meeting yesterday in New Jersey, after Romney called Trump a 'fraud' and a 'phony' during the Republican primary this spring and Trump had referred to Romney as a loser and a 'choker.'

Pence said Trump was 'very grateful' that Romney came to Saturday's meeting.

'We spent the better part of an hour together with him,' he said. 'And then I know that the two of them actually had some private time together.'

'I would tell you that it was not only a cordial meeting, but also it was a very substantive meeting,' Pence revealed....

Why Mitt Romney?

Don’t tell me he’s the only person, qualified and knowledgeable enough to be Secretary of State, because he’s not.

I will be utterly sick, if Trump gives this man such a high position.

Noting that I gladly voted for Trump and do not regret doing so, please consider the following.

Romney is corrupt Washington cartel imo.

I think that constitutional low-information Trump is making a mistake giving Romney a position of power.

Corrections, insights welcome.

Deals were made to solidify the party, the whole party. As long as Trump makes the picks, which he says he decides, I support Trump.

Hopefully he fills his slots with mostly solid conservatives and NO open border NWO socialists, I’m good.

Keep your enemies closer? There is a slight chance this could be a Electoral College defense. The Evil Dem electors are calling the Repub electors to urge to vote for Kaisich or anyone but Trump. If they deny Trump the 270 it goes to the house and we could end up an establishment pick after all. It’s seems very unlikely but the swamp is more of cesspool so I think anything is possible.

I remember. It was a necessity. It put the Bush wing into the mix. I supported and liked GW Bush, although he wouldn't fight back against his political enemies. I've never cared much for the rest of the clan, and GW’s refusal to fight politically just about destroyed the Republican Party..

doesn’t Romney see Russia as an enemy?

You think because Trump wants to ease tensions it means he thinks Russia is our BFF?

SOS gets the cues from the President.

Trump may be dealing with his competition, the way Microsoft did.

Embrace, Extend, Extinguish.

Romney needs to bend the knee to Trump, and offer a full public apology to Trump for his disgraceful behaviour over the last year.

If he is willing to do this, he must also cooperate with Trump in exposing the full extent of the crimes if McCain and Bush’s and allow them to feel justice

doesn’t Romney see Russia as an enemy?

Is there any sane person that doesn't? Even if they are enemies we can still find areas of common interest like killing ISIS. But you are not implying you think Trump sees Russia as an ... ally or friend?

Rudy - not awfully diplomatic when he gets excited.

Fine for here in country - but not for dealing with world leaders overseas...
