Melania and Barron Trump won’t be moving to the White House
NY Post ^ | November 20, 2016 | Isabel Vincent

Future First Lady Melania Trump and son Barron will not be moving to the White House after Donald Trump’s inauguration in January, The Post has learned.

The president-elect’s 46-year-old wife and their 10-year-old son are staying put at the family’s glitzy Trump Tower penthouse so that Barron can continue attending his Upper West Side private school, sources told The Post.

“Melania is extremely close to Barron, and they have become closer during the campaign,” said a source close to Trump’s transition team. “The campaign has been difficult for Barron, and she is really hoping to keep disruption to a minimum.”

Another source said Melania Trump will travel to the White House as needed, but that her primary focus is on Barron.

“Melania is very supportive of her husband and is fully on board of doing everything that’s needed as first lady,” said the second source familiar with the Trump transition.

That source said also that there is a possibility that Melania and Barron may move to the White House at the end of the school year, but no plans are in place.

“She is really devoted to Barron,” said a source close to the family, adding that Melania has not relied on nannies to raise the child and is frequently seen picking the fourth-grader up from his prep school, where tuition is north of $40,000.

The decision to remain in their Midtown home will increase the security presence around Trump Tower — an effort that will involve both Secret Service and the NYPD, an expert familiar with high-level security told The Post.

“That building is going to become the White House of New York,” said Jim Reese, a former Delta Force commander and president of TigerSwan, a global security company based in North Carolina.

Exactly.

Growing up as Army Brats who moved every 2-3 years, my children had a different normal than children who spent their entire lives in the same house

Huge security footprint. Trump Tower is visible from a large number of surrounding high rise buildings. It would be much easier for USSS to manage the WH footprint alone, with Barron attending Sidwell Friends.

I hope its just until June and school lets out. The President and his family need to live in the Whitehouse. There are plenty of good private schools.

Melania is a very hands on mother. She did not have nannies for Barron, she raised her own child. They certainly could have afforded all of the help any mom could want.

I watched the interview that Harvey Levin did with Trump. They showed several still shots of Baron looking happy and smiling with his Mother. It was in direct contrast to how he looks now when he’s in public.

I don’t mean to offend by making the observation that this youngster looks overwhelmed by what is happening in his and his family’s life.

He would have been the first son living in the White House since JFK jr.

Yes, lots of kids go through multiple moves. However, not many have to endure the kind of hatred and abuse Barron is likely to face in a new school.

I sure hope Melania has enough time to completely redecorate the White Hut into a beautiful place once again.

She'll have to wait for the disaster recovery, and fumigation crews to complete their jobs. When I posted this comment a few days ago, some freeper added an exorcist to the recovery team.

So...because your normal was a military “brat” whose family moved every 2-3 years. Well...good for you and it worked out. That was your “normal”...it was all you were used to..

I know kids that grew up in that environment - some turned out incredibly well...some not so much.

Here’s the rub - your “normal” is not the normal for the Trump family. They don’t move every 2-3 years.

I suggest you treasure your experiences...and let the Trump family decide on what’s best for them. Period.

Roger that. I can fully associate with your experience. I went to Guam when I was 3 months old. Way back in ‘47! Yikes. Lucky for me the population hadn’t grown to near the ‘tipping point’ at that time. Shortest time at one location was a year. Longest 4 years. Dad was a career Naval officer. He swore me in to the Navy when I was 20. I only did one hitch (4 different ships in one tour?). But, having traveled so much gave me a pretty good world view. You are correct that you learn a lot about different cultures and ways which most kids today have no idea about. I turned out ok. Well, at least I think so. Others, not so much. LOL!

It’s my belief that Barron has special needs that we aren’t privy to. They are making this decision based on what is best for their child. As they should.

Perhaps there are other medical/emotional issues with Barron that are well... none of our business. I suspected as much when I saw him at the GOP convention.

This could be the reason he’s not coming to Washington.

And frankly, they way the enemy is acting these days, having the family in Washington may be a security risk for now.

Agree. I grew up as an Army brat and moved & changed schools a number of times. He can go to St. Albans or another private academy not named Sidwell and make new friends. Or go to D.C. public schools or military school as did his father, although I don’t think Melania would permit it. Bottom line: They need to live in the WH as a family.
