I’m trying to remember his name, the Democrats said he was a alcoholic and womanizer.
“If you can cite an example, then that would be helpful in making your case.”
The fight between the Senate and its former member, John Tower, in 1989 was historic in many ways. Tower had headed the Senate Armed Services Committee until he retired in 1985. President Bush had nominated Tower as defense secretary.
The public debate over Towers nomination included a lot of mudslinging, and Tower lost the vote along party lines in the Democrat-controlled Senate. He was the only former Senate member rejected for a cabinet position by the Senate in its history. Dick Cheney was later approved in Towers place
1. He wasn't a sitting U.S. Senator. He had retired in 1985.
2. He had no friends in the Senate on either side of the aisle. His strained relationship with conservatives dated back to the contentious 1976 GOP primary battle when the Texas delegation supported Ford over Reagan.
3. He was instrumental in getting John McCain's political career started in Arizona.
Good riddance. I would have voted against his nomination, too.
I suspect it will be more like, thirty Democrats join in and they term it, “Without bipartisan support”.
It reminds me of the Robert Bork nomination. Even though he was vilified by Democrats who defeated his nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court, he actually had more enemies in Washington among Republicans who never forgave him for his role in the infamous “Saturday Night Massacre” during Nixon’s Watergate saga.
Manchin may be getting ready to swap party affiliation...i am sure the west virginia election nimbers caught his attention
Former liberal republican senator from Oregon...whats his name?
Sometimes one can learn much from observing the behavior of a person's family. Does the name Heather Bresch sound familiar? It's Manchin's daughter who not only claimed to have earned an MBA which she did not, but she's CEO of Mylan, the company that gouges people with life-threatening allergies for mercilessly high costs for their epi-pen.
If Manchin changed parties, it would be at a curiously convenient time.
The Democrats have a big problem going into 2018....they must defend 23 Senate seats....10 in states that Trump won...could be the beginning of a new era in politics in the US.
Must be trying to keep his daughter out of the evening news....
He’s been in full blown suck up mode for quite awhile. That won’t help him in 2018. He’s toast. As a newly minted senator he collaborated with the gun control fanatics. West Virginians despise him.
Well Joe’s in a hell of a spot then since his state went about 67% for Trump.
None. He was named to a minor leadership position by Senate rats. Vice Chair of communications or some such. It’s his job to try and figure out what lies to tell White voters, I guess. Which makes him high on my enemies list.
He’s covering his six by supporting Sessions. He needs to be removed from office in 2018 along with other filth in “red” states like Clare McCrapskul.
Anyway, great pick, a friend of liberty instead of the SJW that Shilley would have picked. What a stark contrast, no other Cabinet position will see a starker one. Obama’s DOJ has been pretty much the opposite of what you would want, it made “Justice” in the title seem Orwellian.
He needs to change parties. The GOP would welcome Manchin.
Holder and Lynch’s concept of justice was “just-us,” as has been noted on FR.
Let’s swap Linda for for Manchin
