Since the aftermath of the Civil War, only three or so proposed Cabinet members were rejected by Senate vote.

Usually a president is told that a proposed member wouldn’t have support and isn’t officially put to a vote.

Many of the Dem Senators up for reelection are in Trump states.

There will likely be no serious challenges to Trump’s cabinet picks, as they look now.

He’ll switch. WV went for Trump by 41 points. Manchin’s up for re-election in 2018

I expect Gov. Bentley of Alabama will appoint Sessions’ seatholder until the 2018 election.

Alabama law specifies that:

a.) The Governor will appoint an interim Senator.

b.) Then, a special election will be held on such a day as the governor may direct, unless vacancy occurs between 2 and 4 months before the next regularly-scheduled general election, in which case it is held at that election. If vacancy occurs within 60 days of the next regularly-scheduled general election, a special election must be held on the first Tuesday after 60 days have elapsed since the vacancy occurred.

Joe’s coming on over. If Joe wants to switch parties, now would be a perfect time.

Chances of Manchin changing parties?

Don't know for sure, but Manchin says the right things about guns and coal. I suppose he'd have to, in order to stay in office in W. Va. But he's a politician, and he may go whichever way he thinks the wind is blowing.

not talking about confirming sessions.
talking about senate makeup after he is confirmed.

I am hopeful the Alabama Repub governor will have already appointed a replacement and the replacement is ready to take the oath as soon as sessions takes his oath.

I don’t think it matters. I believe most U.S. Senators would be very reluctant to vote against the confirmation of a sitting Senator for a cabinet position.

strangely, didn’t Graham also say that Cruz should be on SCOTUS?

Maybe he just wants two conservatives out of the Senate....

It almost makes sense for the Democrats to pay him to leave the party. He’s going to support the GOP agenda for the next two years, and he’ll just be a pain in the ass to them.

Chances of Manchin changing parties?

Please don't tempt him. It's a bad idea. We get a chance to replace him in 2018; don't make our job harder.

Thank you.

On Election Day 2016 the voters of West Virginia beat Clinton like the red-headed stepchild of a rented mule.

Only Wyoming beat Hildebeeste by a larger margin; they outdid us by 1 percentage point.

Manchin says the right things about guns

Bullshit. He wasn't even a year into his first full term before he was proposing gun control laws. He's a snake. Only a fool would trust that 0bamorrhoid bastard.

Joe’s developing his ass-kissing to an art form.

My first thought when I read the title. The man is a windsock.

“I don’t think it matters. I believe most U.S. Senators would be very reluctant to vote against the confirmation of a sitting Senator for a cabinet position.”

That is a media lie, Democrats have no problem destroying the reputation of anybody in their way.

If you can cite an example, then that would be helpful in making your case.
