Democrats won't be able to block Trump appointments due to rules they imposed
The Gazette ^ | November 19, 2016 | The Washington Post

Senate Democrats are not going to be able to block Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions bid to become attorney general. And they can’t do much to stop Kansas Rep. Mike Pompeo from assuming the helm of the CIA.

And they have only themselves to thank for it.

That’s because exactly three years ago, the Democratic Senate majority — led by Harry Reid (Nev.) — rammed through controversial rules fundamentally changing the way the Senate does business. They unleashed in November 2013 what’s called the “nuclear option” allowing senators to approve by a simple majority all presidential appointments to the executive branch and the judiciary, with a big exception for Supreme Court justices.

Good. Beat the dems mercilessly with their own rules, alinsky style.

Comeuppance is a bitch.

I’m sure that Reid is talking to Paul Ryan about “fixing” this right now.

This tit-for-tat is exactly why I hated many of the powers GW Bush created. I kept thinking “what happens when Hillary gets ahold of these powers.”

The simple answer is small, limited government. If they government is small and limited, then we don’t have to worry about corruption or tyranny. If they have scant power over you, they can’t abuse it.

“A government big enough to give you all you want is big enough to take away everything you have.”

The Founders warned us firmly, specifically about this. Can President Trump shrink the bloated Federal government? I pray he has the guts to but the GOP-e will fight him every step of the way.

Let’s also remember the Gang of 14. Their betrayal allowed 0to fill the middle level federal courts with marxist libtards. Never forget or forgive their betrayal. Ya hear that McCain!

Should the Republican Senate majority change the rule regarding Supreme Court nominees? Would it be wise?

Unfortunately the giddiness is false. Mitch and the spineless ones voted to undo this change in rules

You mean Turtle hasn’t caved yet?

The turtle sometimes surprises. I lost a bet with one of my nevertrumper friends that he'd cave on Obama's SC nominee. He didn't much to my surprise. So, let's wait and see if he has discovered a spine.

Well, the liberals can’t say anything if the Republicans did change the rules. After all, they changed rules when they had the power, to grease the skids for Obama nominees.

I would be hesitant to change rules, just because, if you think longer term, you have to think about how your political opponents would use those rules when they again take power.

Obama is not the last Democrat president this country will ever see. The Democrats will someday again control the Senate. Harry Reid should have thought longer term when he rammed through his rule change.

The Democrats are angry that the Senate never took up the nomination of Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court, so part of their strategy on handling Trump’s Supreme Court nomination, will be payback.

Is Janice Rogers Brown available?

Trump’s biggest problems in the congress are going to come from Republicans Senators. The democrats are neutered but McCain, Graham, McConnell, Flake, etc are most certainly not. You watch.

The filibuster needs to be a major issue. As in it’s demise. It serves little purpose at this point other than to screw over nationalists.

Remember when the GOP took the Senate back in the early 2000’s?

IIRC, GWBush allowed all of Clinton's waiting federal judge nominees go through the process and many of them were confirmed. Just Bush being a nice guy. /s

What a waste of my vote.

. . .but as Reid was talking about killing the Filibuster on Supreme Court nominees, we ought to give him that as a going away “up yours!” . . .
