Trump team eyes Scott Brown for Veterans Affairs secretary

Scott Brown is being considered for Veterans Affairs secretary — a position the former Massachusetts Republican senator says he would accept if offered.

“The VA is in trouble. Soldiers are dying while waiting, employee morale is low and it needs to be fixed,” Brown told The Post in an email.

“Having served for 35 years in military, last 4 years at Pentagon, serving on Armed Services, Veterans and working on these issues for decades, it would be a great challenge to fix and a great honor to serve if asked. Time will tell,” he added.

Brown, who moved a couple years ago to New Hampshire to run for Senate there, was an early and instrumental supporter of Trump before the first-in-the-nation primary there.

They already did. Elizabeth Warren defeated him 4 years ago.

It’s not a trial balloon.

Trump has since election day let the MSM think they have sources. Then he proves them wrong (Guilliani and Cruz as AG).

This is all to set up refusing them press credentials at the WH. Let bloggers be the info conduit and destroy all media celebrities.

I agree, not Scott Brown

You would need someone like Joe Arpaio.

The key is to get rid of the union employee contracts which
interfere with bringing proper service to veterans.

The VA is simply a black hole for any money spent for veterans. It never gets to them.

No - not really. As long as the job is filled with someone who cares about our Vets, and will defend them, then that will be OK with me.

If Carson were interested in the role, he’d have it.

I don’t think the idea of going to work to fight a bureaucracy every day appeals to him at this point—and that’s what these positions require.

..and give vets the ability to see the doctor of their choice.

Agreed there, but many of the Veteran's Hospitals and Clinics are top-notch, and I know this from personal experience.

The local clinics I've been to have been very good.

The doctors mostly excellent in both the clinics and hospitals.

But the hospitals such as East Orange New Jersey don't even have enough parking.
And it's quite a walk up that hill for some vets that have trouble even standing.

The patients there on at least one floor were not given their pain meds at night-(they had surgeries the day before)

At least one patient I know of was laying in his own urine leaking from a tube in his back from his kidney surgery.
No one changed his bedding or cleaned him until I got there.
(he also did not receive pain meds even though he asked for and was told he would be getting it in 'just a few minutes'

If you live just under the 40 mile limit they set for choice to go to an outside doctor, they will not pay.

No veteran should be denied the free care that every person getting Medicaid gets.

All Veterans that receive Medicare (which they pay for every month) should have their out of pocket costs paid for by the VA when they choose to go to a doctor or hospital that's closer.

People on welfare are treated better.

NO! Period. Scott Brown doesn’t have the stones to do what is NECESSARY to get it right, He is opportunistic and has shown a propensity to play better with the establishment rather than the people he was supposed to represent. Too malleable to the MSM looking for good press.

His pickup shtick was just as much of a prop as was Lamar Alexander’s plaid shirts.

Allen West.

[snip] While serving in Taji, Iraq, West received information from an intelligence specialist about a plot to ambush his unit. The alleged plot involved Yahya Jhodri Hamoodi, an Iraqi police officer. West had his men detain Hamoodi.[18] Soldiers testified that in the process of detaining Hamoodi, he appeared to reach for his weapon and needed to be subdued.[18] Hamoodi was beaten by four soldiers from the 2/20th Field Artillery Battalion on the head and body.[19] West then fired his pistol near Hamoodi’s head,[18] after which Hamoodi provided West with names and information, which Hamoodi later described as “meaningless information induced by fear and pain.”[18] At least one of these suspects was arrested as a result, but no plans for attacks or weapons were found.[18] West said “At the time I had to base my decision on the intelligence I received. It’s possible that I was wrong about Mr. Hamoodi.”[18]

West was charged with violating Articles 128 (assault) and 134 (general article) of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. During a hearing held as part of an Article 32 investigation in November 2003, West stated, “I know the method I used was not right, but I wanted to take care of my soldiers.”[19] The charges were ultimately referred to an Article 15 proceeding rather than court-martial, at which West was fined $5,000.[18] West accepted the judgment and retired with full benefits as a lieutenant colonel in the summer of 2004.

Asked if he would act differently under similar circumstances, West testified, “If it’s about the lives of my soldiers at stake, I’d go through hell with a gasoline can.”[19]

At his hearing, West said that there were no ambushes against American forces in Taji until he was relieved of his leadership post a month later.[19] After West’s retirement he received more than 2,000 letters and e-mails offering him moral support.[18] A letter supporting West was signed by 95 members of the U.S. Congress and sent to the Secretary of the Army.[18] [snip}

He has a lot to fix besides the poor care. I to would prefer a Veteran in charge. And get rid of the dead cord wood that don’t work or do poor work. Privatize as much as possible.

Hubby with both our SS and his Navy pension is over the cap. Our VA facility is crap for care, but then what did you expect out of Memphis run by dems.

There are two issues involved, is the Veteran a 1-2 hitch person or a career Service, level of service is different.

As is disability from VA Care which has a $38K cap per year income level, even for career Military. BE sure upon discharge you have a complete physical, dental and vision and all medical health issues checked off. Don’t neglect your visit to a Othomologist or dentis. A Optometrist is not a specialist and his records won’t help if you develop eye issues from chems or dangerous cleaning or lead paint contact.

I LOVE Allen West. Never met him, but a great American. If he became VA chief, I would love it. But the job is hard. You will never please anyone. The budget fights will be terrific. And the media will crucify you even if you win.

I know Gail and you've well documented the waste and fraud.

Reforming the VA will be a monumental task, however I remain optimistic that the incoming Trump team will be up to the task.
