Barbara Boxer Introduces Bill to End Electoral College (Dream on Losers)

After Donald Trump won despite losing the popular vote count, liberals everywhere were (once again) demanding an end to the electoral college. Most of it was all talk. After all, how can we possibly change a system that has worked for over 200 years?

Well, Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) has taken the next step: She is introducing a bill to put an end to the electoral college once and for all.

"In my lifetime, I have seen two elections where the winner of the general election did not win the popular vote," said Senator Boxer on her Senate website. "When all the ballots are counted, Hillary Clinton will have won the popular vote by a margin that could exceed two million votes, and she is on track to have received more votes than any other presidential candidate in history except Barack Obama. This is the only office in the land where you can get more votes and still lose the presidency. The Electoral College is an outdated, undemocratic system that does not reflect our modern society, and it needs to change immediately. Every American should be guaranteed that their vote counts."

While Trump tweeted in 2012 that the electoral college system is a "disaster," he said on Monday that the system, put in place by our Founding Fathers, is fair because it compels presidential candidates to visit smaller states that would otherwise be ignored.

Boxer is expected to put forward her legislation as the Senate convenes on Tuesday.

After Donald Trump won despite losing the popular vote count...

How does she know? All the votes haven't been counted yet.

>>The Founding Fathers were wise in establishing the Electoral College as a way to make sure all of the country would have a say in who is elected President. The Electoral College, as amended, has served the People well and so it should remain. <<

They were also wise in having the States select their Senators. Let us pray America never again has a brain fart as bad as the 17th Amendment.

I don’t think she’s gonna find too many Republicans who’ll go along with that and vote to end the Republican form of government. They may have had a better chance at that when the opposition party was called Whigs.

“Senator Boxer’s legislation would amend the Constitution of the United States and abolish the Electoral College. The amendment would take effect when ratified by three-fourths of the states within seven years after its passage in the U.S. Congress.”

So it’s simple- 2/3 of House, 2/3 of Senate, then 3/4 of states before December 18, including a Supremes challenge about changing the rules AFTER the election. No problem.

The purpose of this bill is to whip up the street riots when it gets voted down by the evil Republicans who just want to keep a racist, rigged system in place to oppress women.

Somebody should tell the bitch we are not a “Democracy”. We are a REPUBLIC! The Electoral College has many reasons to be. It’s a bulwark against a few big states burying the little states and forms a bit of a bulwark against illegal votes.

That would require a 2/3 3/4 majority of states to ratify it.

Fixed.

That’s why I have zero anxiety about the electoral college ever being abolished.

Nothing like submitting a bill that is DOA.

Boxer should worry about how they are going to retain the over 2 dozen Democratic Senate seats that are up for reelection in 2018. Republicans have six.

With 50% losses on each side, that’s about 15 seats gained for the Republicans. Combined with the seats not up for election, that would give the Republicans a filibuster-proof majority.

abolishing the EC would basically make a dozen cities determine the election with all the other, smaller states votes not matter.

I had someone today (dumb brother of a friend) tell me that they could abolish it with a ‘bi-partisan agreement’. Apparently he didn’t pass civics.

go back and read the record Cortney, Trump won BOTH, repeat BOTH the electoral and the popular vote. Forget what the lame stream media tells you. It’s over, Trump won and the electoral college is still in tact.
