Sixteen out of the last twenty four years were under the control of radical Clinton and Obama Administrations so a huge fraction of Federal Judges are Clinton and Obama appointees.
A judge appointed at age 40 by GHW Bush in 1991 is now past 65 years of age. It's only by Gods Grace that Obama only appointed two Supreme Court Justices
I think Trump's position is that this is a state issue and let each state figure it out for themselves.
Let the Republican dominated states fight it out for the next few years while conservative judges replace the liberals on the Supreme Court.
Perhaps then the country can make some headway but for now, barring some huge change in public opinion, it's a losing fight.

People are saying he must protect religious freedom, and I agree, but with gay marriage legalized, I see the courts using that to say bakers, florists, etc. can’t discriminate if it violates their moral beliefs to do a gay wedding.

I’ve given that some thought too. That’s why Trump should do some type of psychological evaluation for each prospect SCOTUS candidate for who would be the best not to get sucked into the DC cultural swamp or who is not compromised.

Trump was specifically asked the homosexual “marriage” question during the primaries and said his personal view was marriage is the union of one man and one woman. He went on to say he would honor the SCOTUS ruling. The 60 minutes leftist was trying to get Trump to say something the media could pound him over the head with. Same thing on the abortion question. Trump knows full well if he can get a couple more constitutions on the court that homo “marriage” and the right of a woman to murder her child will eventually fall. He’s right.
Only possible relief is a constitutional amendment, and that would be out of Trump’s hands. He’s fine with it, because he doesn’t want to deal with it, and he doesn’t have to. His plate is full. Most he’d be required to do is cheerlead or endorse the amendment drive.

Remembering that this was penned no later than twenty years ago, and seeing the futility of the Tea Party movement alone, we can cling to the slim hope that this cliff-hanger Trump phenomenon may offer some footing for pushing back the liberalism radiating from our influential mediaplex as well as denominational church pulpits (hence schools, universities, and county boards) if true conservatives live long enough and push hard enough to displace the affections of our grandchildren from popular worldly globalistic culture back into a deep-rooted allegiance first to family, and after that permitting only reliable leaders to be seated, overseeing religious and policy-making in the community.
Now, I've said enough, and maybe even too much to be heard and grasped. I do one thing. That's not the same as the marriage issue. That's a religious liberty issue. Trump has stated he will defend religious liberty.

Stahl tried to trap Trump with this question & Trump did the RIGHT thing with his answer. He didn’t change his mind on the issue. Trump’s not going to pull the trigger when the MSM points a gun at his head.
The MSM & never-trumpers still take everything Trump says literally. After losing horribly you’d think they’d have learned by now this is why their view was rejected.

Finally we have a man elected who understands how the system works. If the people want the law changed, then their Congress can change it. At that point, Trump will make his determination.
Until then, Trump is not going to worry about the law. He will leave that up to his AG and SCOTUS.
That is correct. No matter who is President its basically a fact that opposition to gay marriage is going nowhere politically in the USA anytime as far as the eye can see.
There is no doubt that Trump said a while back that Scotus made a decision and settled the issue.
First, there is a legal and a vernacular meaning of ‘settled’. If I say, “It’s settled, we’re going to Gatlinburg next year to see the fall colors.”, that is the vernacular meaning of something having been agreed upon or decided up. The truth is that we could have unexpected bills and change our mind next summer.
The legal definition of “settled law” is law that has been in place so long or so often unsuccessfully challenged that “settled” becomes a synonym for undeniable, permanent.
Trump is not a lawyer. Does not speak like a lawyer and doesn’t even pretend to be a lawyer.
He was speaking in the common language and saying that Scotus had made a decision. So, even for me, the issue of “same sex marriage” has been decided by Scotus, and I don’t see any move afoot that will soon overturn it. They settled it for the time being.
Nor will a new conservative replacement for Scalia make any difference. The fifth vote for it was the so-called libertarian/conservative justice, Anthony Kennedy. Kennedy is still there, and he’s not changed his mind
