Brainwashing Your Kids About Politics Is Not Healthy Or Cute
the Federalist ^ | Amanda Parry

Posted on 11/10/2016 1:24:38 PM PST by bobk3

“What do I tell my kids?” was the question on everyone’s minds, followed by the sentiments, “They’re terrified of Trump,” or “They worshiped Hillary!” Many posted a Huffington Post Parents article in which consultant and PhD Ali Michael urged parents: “Tell them, first, that we will protect them.” Pardon my French, but what the hell?

It’s not that I’m pleased with the outcome of the election. But there’s no way I’m dragging my six- and seven-year-old into the emotional bacchanal that is the current state of American politics. Ask me again when they’re teens or even tweens, but for now I’m not going to discuss hypothetical fallout with people who wear Ninja Turtle PJs to bed.

...But the majority of the concepts being discussed in these elections — abortion, immigration, terrorism — are so complex, so tinged by human emotion, that trying to explain them to my children would be an exercise in futility. My daughter still doesn’t understand why she can’t use a urinal like her brother, so I’m guessing the finer points of nuclear disarmament might be lost on her. If I can’t expect them to understand these issues, why would I expect them to form opinions on them?

...Even if I didn’t have a healthy disregard for the infallibility of people running for office, I would like to think I wouldn’t foist my hero worship, and consequent demonization of the opposition, onto my children.

I tried to keep my 4-year-old out of it, but other relatives intervened, and then he’s saying that he’s worried that Trump is going to put Hillary in jail. I told him, “hey, you do the crime, you have to do the time!”

Sadly, I know of someone that has done this with their child.

My 22 year-old is a quasi-Libertarian. I suspected she wanted Hillary to win but.......she lost.
Ironic since she sang for FR’s House Impeachment Rally when she was 4.

IF you're not a liberal when you're 20 you have no heart!
IF you're still a liberal when you're 30 you have no brain!

OK, I think I have now named a new syndrome.

Munchausen Syndrome is when you poison yourself for sympathy, and get well, over and over.

Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy is even sicker—it’s when parents (usually women) make their children ill so they can play “rescuer”and get them treatment, needless surgery, etc. Sometimes the child dies.

We now have “Political Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy”, where leftist parents create emotional trauma by demonizing Trump and scaring the dickens out of the kid, and then promising to “protect” their traumatized children from this imaginary bogeyman.

Mental illness in each case.

I disagree. I think its critical that those of us with children have a little current events deprogramming conversation with our children every day.

My oldest is already quite adept at divining the true motivations behind each liberal push she encounters.

I was quite proud when my gradeschoolers came home laughing at all the "triggered" "snowflakes" trembling in the halls.

"Dad, what causes that?"

"A poor home life in an overly emotionalist household devoid of logic and generally bad parenting."

I don’t know, my kids are still celebrating. The ones old enough to vote and the ones not :) This was my 18 y/o’s first election to vote. Best. Election. Ever.

I have a friend in San Diego who is very conservative. Her kindergarten aged child was propagandized by by her liberal teacher. She proudly voted for Hillary in the mock classroom election. The election materials for the kinds had a sweet looking cartoon of Hillary next to an angry looking Trump. No bias there.

Time to find a different school. My wife and I learned quickly that "daycare" means you have delegated the teaching of principles to a "for pay" provider who may not share your values. We stopped the daycare thing and my wife ceased working. The daycare cost everything she earned and more. It was a complete waste for her to work.

I agree with BobK3—only speaking to your kids about political matters will the be inoculated against the media, and the schools. You know you have succeeded when, as Bob said, your kids laugh at the absurd memes pushed by the left, and understand how and why they are being “played”.

My children are in middle school. I’m more political than my husband, and took our 11 year old son to Tea Party meetings the past few months. He enjoyed feeling like an adult.

When there was an argument at school on Trump vs Hillary, someone said Trump hates women, which is why all women will vote for Clinton. My son said no they won’t, no he doesn’t. “Who told you that?” he was challenged.
“My mom.”
There was this dumb shocked, what, a mother said she supports Trump? They couldn’t fathom the idea and called him a liar before telling him to shut up his hate or keep it at home.

I hate the liberal viewpoint of “conservatives take your Christian views and get thee to the ghetto”, and then deliberately infiltrating said cultural ghetto to either force it to change or shut it down. And if you have to keep your faith and politics at home for fear of hate mobs at best screaming profanities and at worst lynching, you don’t have a free society.

It's an old saying and nobody ever said it's "carved in stone".
I was not a liberal at 20 years old. No way.
However there were certain family members who were almost commies at 20
Later in life they became very conservative.

I let my 10 year old go to a party at my sister in law's over the summer and he came back a Hillary supporter. My husband gave her an earful! :)

My middle schooler is naturally conservative - I don't know that it will last - but he just seems to be made that way.

The weird thing is he gets mail from the RNC and Donald Trump and my husband and I who are registered Republicans have never received anything.

He also told me that his school voted 49% to 29% Trump over Hillary on election day (the rest were 3rd party votes). When he got off the bus and told me that Tuesday afternoon is when I knew we were going to win! (This is in upstate NY btw).

But it is just fine when conservative Christians are made to fear when a Marxist Muslim takes control of the Oval Office, and rules by fiat.

Leftists and double standards are inseparable.
