~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: United States Naval Academy, Maryland

usna2

The United States Naval Academy is a four-year coeducational federal service academy in Annapolis, Maryland, United States. Established on October 10, 1845, under Secretary of the Navy George Bancroft, it is the second oldest of the United States' five service academies, and educates officers for commissioning primarily into the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps.

Candidates for admission generally must both apply directly to the academy and receive a nomination, usually from a Member of Congress. Students are officers-in-training and are referred to as midshipmen. Tuition for midshipmen is fully funded by the Navy in exchange for an active duty service obligation upon graduation.

usna4

Approximately 1,200 "plebes" enter the Academy each summer for the rigorous Plebe Summer, but only about 1,000 midshipmen graduate. Graduates are usually commissioned as ensigns in the Navy or second lieutenants in the Marine Corps, but a small number can also be cross-commissioned as officers in other U.S. services, and the services of allied nations.

usna6

The academic program grants a bachelor of science degree with a curriculum that grades midshipmen's performance upon a broad academic program, military leadership performance, and mandatory participation in competitive athletics. Midshipmen are required to adhere to the academy's Honor Concept.

In its 2016 edition, U.S. News & World Report ranked the U.S. Naval Academy as the No. 1 public liberal arts college and tied for the 9th best overall liberal arts college in the U.S. In the category of High School Counselor Rankings of National Liberal Arts Colleges, the Naval Academy is also tied for No. 1 with the U.S. Military Academy and the U.S. Air Force Academy, and is tied for the No. 5 spot for Best Undergraduate Engineering program at schools where doctorates not offered.

Howdy, Kathy!

Yes, party time tomorrow night and hopefully one of celebration.

How has your day gone? Any noticeable changes since those meetings?

FR’s had problems off and on all night. Probably busy due to the election tomorrow and it slows things down.

LOL! My heating pad is on the bed and it won’t be long before I’m lying on it. Can’t get out of bed if I don’t sleep on it every night. Durn bum back.

I had to go to the other house to do a little laundry and just got back. We have a front-loader here and it just doesn’t do a good job with towels and sweaters. The other house has a top-loader that works much better for those.

I’ll be heading to bed soon, too. Busy day ahead but I don’t mind getting up early for it.

Good night and sleep as well as is possible. I think we’re all antsy at this point.
