You understand the local law better than a U.S. native.

Is this allowed? Is the bowman likely to be prosecuted?

Just how does someone sit down to drive with an arrow in his butt? Seems to me that would be downright uncomfortable to say the least.

If he took a broad head out of a compound, I’ll bet he did “get the point”. Especially one of the expandable heads like the Rage...lol

Oooohhh...that's gonna leave a mark.

But seriously, what's next for the folks down under? Will the government demand all people turn in their archery kit? Then will it be cricket bats? Knives after that?

Those stupid blokes and sheilas should never have given up their firearms. They have set themselves on the road to slavery.

A lot could depend on precisely what he says to the police.

You have the legal right to use deadly force if you genuinely believe you or another innocent person is at risk of death or serious injury. But not just to protect property.

If I was this man, I would make sure I explained to police that even though the man was running away from me when I fired, I was still worried he might come back, or that he might have a weapon in his own vehicle that he was trying to retrieve, so I was still in genuine fear for my life or that of other people.

Unfortunately some people have been known to tell police that “No, I no longer felt in danger” and that gets them into trouble.

It can also depend on the specific beliefs of the police officers involved. Some will want to do everything they can to avoid charging the homeowner, but there are others who will be looking for an excuse to do so.

We didn't give up our guns. There are more firearms legally held in private hands in Australia now than there were before the events of the mid to late 1990s. Australia does have more than its share of dumb gun laws but they are nowhere near as bad as some people in the US have been lead to believe.

Take a look at this website for what has become my favourite Aussie gunshop

More similarities than differences.

It is very close to what is the law in most states here.

Texas is a bit different, but most are very close.

I approve of thieves getting shot “down under”. It’s a shame he didn’t turn to face the victim at the last moment.

Could have struck them on the side. Drivable, but still going to be painful.

A “botched” break and enter? Appears that Aussies go to the same Stupid School of Journalism that Americans attend.
