Putting aside that this is a sad situation for both the woman’s family and the man trying to protect his property, I can’t help but find the combination of the article and your screen name funny.
He is responsible for her death.
That’s all there is to it. Obviously it was not premeditated, but he killed her nonetheless.

What a moron! You can get another car. There’s nothing life-threatening about someone stealing your car unless one of your children is in it when it was taken and then it would be doubly stupid to shoot into it.
I don’t think so ... meanwhile the shooter is in big trouble.
When I first found it necessary to carry a gun, I got .380 with Glaser rounds. Normally a .380 slug will ricochet. The plastic round stops at the first thing it hits. True, it isn’t a good round for a pitched battle, but I doubt I’d ever be in one of those. What I was afraid of is putting a bullet through a wall and killing some innocent on the other side.

Can he get another car? If someone stole my truck with my tools, it would be devastating at this point in my life. He will have stolen a lot more than material goods. Furthermore, when someone takes your property, they take your dignity, they essentially make you a slave to their desire. I think those are things worth fighting to preserve. This guy made a big mistake. One’s response needs to be measured.
You can get insurance for your tools and your truck. I suggest that you do it soon.
He should be able to defend his property as he defends his life. Unfortunately he probably did not train properly and will have to live with the consequences. The thief should face charges for the life lost though. It was that malcontent’s actions that led to a presumably innocent third party dying.

I hope your truck and your tools are insured, but I know in the end, the insurance payout would not cover the entire costs of replacement.
However, that cost is a whole lot cheaper than attorney fees for a murder trial and the money you would not be earning while you are sitting in prison for the nest 15-20 years.

How about the guilt that comes from knowing you killed an innocent person?
