The Ways Trump Can Win
American Thinker ^ | October 28, 2016 | C. Edmund Wright

On Wednesday afternoon this week I made the trek into town, and scratched in the little circle next to next to the names Donald Trump and Mike Pence. It made me a bit queasy, honestly, but so did scratching in the circle next to the name of establishment RINO Richard Burr for Senate, as well as scratching off next to the name of the incoherent incumbent Walter Jones for Congress.

One vote for a New York liberal, one for a mini-McConnell, and one for a misanthrope loon who has managed to be loathed by both the House Freedom Caucus as well as by the office of Speaker John Boehner (and now Speaker Paul Ryan, too, no doubt).

Can I have some tums now?

Frankly, my conscience took a pounding in the booth, but the civic exercise of voting is not about my conscience, or gastrointestinal health, or anything else related to me personally. At the risk of sounding clichéd, it's about the country, and the Court, checks and balances, and so much more. I'm not in any way responsible for the choices I was given -- as I opposed all three of these people in the primaries -- and the primary season was the last time that my conscience was anywhere close to being on the ballot.

I think we should talk more about elections in these terms frankly. We rarely do.

I am an ex-Cruz supporter who went al in for Trump the night of the IN primary. Since there were no other options at that point, I saw no reason to not work against HRC right away. Trump did bis part too. Olive branch to Cruz, Pence for VP, solid list for Scotus, respect for Catholics on social issues and a clear place at the table, starting with Kellyanne Conway.

What I believe I understand about Levin and Wright is that they want a man with an underlying, consistent intellectual rooting in the US Constitutional. Trump is intelligent, and he plays to win, but he doesn’t have that sort of underlayment.

Plenty of conservatives can make a case for tariffs, and I can and do. I don’t like threatening companies against leaving unless you go after theones that were never here in the first place, as it stops new companies from starting here in the first place.

Besides that, entitlements aren’t on the table, mixed messages on spending, and no consistent bias towards state government. That’s okay this time around. He didn’t run on those, and he blew away the field. The RINOs selected Trump when they shoved Romney down our throats last time. Those folks who said they were holding their nose for the last time meant it.

Trump’s ascension comes at the end of an era of decorum. That I blame on Alinsky and other Reds, NOT on Trump. Give Levin and Wright an opprtunity to adjust to the new reality. We are not in a position to be spitting out excommunications.

Clearly, you are not the kind of ex Cruz supporter I have a problem with. I certainly don’t want or expect people to disavow a first choice candidate because they lost the primaries, and join the winner lock step. I’m talking about the ones that have continued to try and destroy and discredit the nominee long after doing so will only serve to aid and abet the enemy.

Regarding the issue of being intellectually rooted in founding principles of constitutional conservativism, I used to think that was a requirement, but there are two things about this election cycle that have changed my mind:

First, however much I agree with the founding principles of constitutional conservatism (and I vehemently do), as principles, they reside largely in academia, hopefully to be consulted often and abided by in the real world if actions, - but it could be argued that the real world is not their domain. By that, I mean that a man can live by the Ten Commandments without ever talking about them, even without being aware that he is doing so.

Secondly, using the metaphore of a treasure map, the academic principles of constitutional conservativism, which safeguard liberty by limiting the power of government, like a map, are of most value when one is lost.

I think many decades ago when certain choices were being made, such as the formation of the federal reserve, the federal income tax, perhaps when states were prevented at gunpoint from seceding from the union, - whatever points in our history that could be considered key turning points in the moral battle of Liberty vs Tyranny (great book by a great author, BTW) - these would have been appropriate times to consult the treasure map (the constitution, and other founding documents), and to hold the academic debates, and to elect leaders who were educated in and rooted in the principles of constitutional conservatism.

I wish we had done that then, when we were lost and found ourselves at a turning point, but right now I think we are not lost at all. We are so close to the edge of a cliff that there is no doubt which way to go - turn around! The promised land is definitely the other way. Another metaphore: When your house is already in flames, that is not the time to take a training course in fire prevention.

I think Trump is the right kind of leader - a sort of war time leader - for where we are right now. We don’t need a teacher-explainer of conservativism like Reagan or Cruz who can articulate and make the case for conservatism, using all the proper jargon and secret handshakes, we need a fighter who knows how to “drain the swamp”, “tell it like it is”, call liars “liars”, and yes, say “you’re fired”.

After we are safely out of the woods, eight years from now, I think we will need a leader intellectually rooted in constitutional conservative principles. Hell, George Washingtin didn’t go around talking about conservative principles. He knew enough about them to passionately choose the right side to fight on (and so does Trump), but his skill set was that he was a military strategist.

Yes, I did read what the Never Trump idiot wrote.

Stop your lying. Here is what you posted

This has absolutely nothing to to with the subject C. Edmund Wright wrote in his op-ed. How stupid do you think I am?

Of course I posted doesn’t have anything to do with the specific column the Never Trumper wrote.

It has to do with the self control capabilities, or lack thereof, of the Never Trumper who wrote the column.

We need to honor him for committing FR suicide in such a spectacular way, and I’m more than please to bring it to everyone’s attention.

I also appreciate your efforts which allow me to bring up again and again what a creep that Never Tumper was.
