The results of the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections have shown that whoever wins Loudon County wins Virginia. The county in the past 16 years has seen significant growth of the Indian-American community, mainly on account of the emergence of an IT corridor near the Dulles Airport.
There were 1,200 Indian-Americans in 2000, which increased to 12,000 in 2010. The number is estimated to have jumped to 30,000 in 2016. The neighboring Fairfax County too has an estimated 20,000 strong Indian-American community members.

I thought observant Jews abstained from idolatry.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s daughter will celebrate Diwali at a Hindu temple in the crucial swing state of Virginia with the members of the Indian-American community, who have traditionally supported the Democratic party in the US polls.
Ivanka Trump will celebrate Diwali with Indian-Americans during her visit to the Rajdhani Temple at Chantilly on Wednesday, campaign officials and community leaders said. This is the first time a family member of one of the two top presidential candidates is visiting a Hindu temple.

Not all Hindu are idolatry. Orthodox Hindu stay away from Idols. They to fire, Sun, Earth prayers. Vedic Hindus follow Vedas.

Then they wouldn’t Indian-Americans. I doubt the 20.000 estimate includes temporary residents.

That’s great if it will bring more votes.

But i’m sure they know how Trump feels about H1Bs.

But what the heck. They’re TRYING different things and reaching out. That’s good.

Happy Diwali, my conservative, Indian-American friends, neighbors, co-workers -- welcome to the Republican party and let's work together to make America great again! At the 10th district convention last spring, we elected an Indian-American delegate -- the first one ever. At the RNC Convention, he spoke and give the Virginia tally. These people are family people, hard workers, and are natural allies of ours. They are welcome in my world of the dot.com Virginia that is the Dulles corridor.

Every votes matter. If she can swing 10,000 votes, that will be big.

yep.

Are there really rules about Jews and Christians not being able to attend one? I’ve never heard of that.

Doesn’t sound like a big deal.

In Northern Virginia I think there is a huge proportion of Indians that are naturalized citizens because the ones who have green cards know that their career prospects are greatly improved if they become citizens. That is because there are so many federal contracts that require their workers to be citizens.

My guess is that the Indian population in the USA is growing by at least a million every 3 years and that at least 7% of the USA population will be Indian by 2040. For the most part they are very hardworking and law-abiding people way above the average we see in the USA. What is driving this immigration is that India has little land and an exploding population that is now 20% of the world’s total population.

Di·wa·li dēˈwälē/ noun a Hindu festival of lights, held in the period October to November. It is particularly associated with Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity, and marks the beginning of the fiscal year in India.

Rangoli is an art form from India in which patterns are created on the floor in living rooms or courtyards using materials such as colored rice, dry flour, colored sand or flower petals. [school children in America use sidewalk chalk]. It is usually made during Diwali (Deepawali), Onam, Pongal and other Indian festivals.

A lot of them have been there from around the Y2K period, so they will be citizens. There are several thousand on temporary visas also as the major Indian outsourcing companies use loopholes to bring in people to work on various visas.

As an Indian Christian, I avoid attending any Diwali celebrations as they are Idol worshipers and Diwali is a Hindu religious festival and not a cultural festival.
