I’m just curious why Obama had to get ICANN handed off to his bffs overseas prior to this election (see JimRob’s quote in the tagline)?

I predicted Obama would declare martial law but taking down our commerce and government and ability to disseminate information quickly works pretty well instead.

The DDOS was done by Anonymous in support of Assange. They were bragging about it on Twitter before it started (or so I heard).

Before everyone panics, this was simply due their taking advantage of an accidental single point of failure due to companies going cheap and outsourcing their DNS to save a few bucks and they exploited it. You can be sure that IT guys at the major sites are going to make darn sure it never happens again.

The Internet is a voluntary concatenation of networks (hence ‘Internet’) each run and operated by their independent owners. There is no single point of failure in the basic design. The fact that it was origonally designed to survive a nuclear attack is apochryphal but it probably could. The TLD DNS servers are redundant and well protected and scattered all over the world, and the backbone providers have peering agreements to use each other’s links in case of fire or earthquakes or other disasters. (The exception is east Asia, which is connected to the rest of the world on a single underwater cable. I dunno if that has been fixed yet.)

The Internet is a tough old bitch that has been around for over 40 years. Respect it.

With the web now in the hands of incompetent nations, it’s pretty much done for.

The stupid RINOS in Congress wouldn't fight for this for fear of upsetting the RATS.

I envision pay to play in our near future with regards to the Internet. Restricted access to information deemed inappropriate for the masses will also become the norm as the washed bid for power and control.

Umm.... I think that is a pretty safe assumption.

The IoT sounds great on paper but I think it’s a bad idea.
