(vanity) In 1980 two weeks from election polls had Jimmy Carter 47 -- Ronald Reagan 39

Pollsters and the news media keep trying to dispirit Mitt Romney’s supporters and to show that Barack Obama will be the inevitable victor. Even after the polling has been packed with Democrats, Obama cannot show a convincing lead that would take him to victory.

Past polls have also shown Democrats leading their Republican opponents up to the election. One of the most dramatic was a Gallup Poll result 2 weeks before the 1980 General Election that showed Jimmy Carter to be far ahead of Ronald Reagan. Rush Limbaugh stated,

In a Gallup poll on October 26th in 1980, two weeks before the election, Gallup had it Jimmy Carter 47, Ronald Reagan 39. That election two weeks later ended up in a landslide that was so big that Carter conceded before California closed.

The New York Times verified this poll,

Ronald Reagan, who trailed President Jimmy Carter 47 percent to 39 percent in a survey completed on Oct. 26, 1980.

As did Wikipedia,

Arguably the most important event of the entire 1980 presidential campaign was the second presidential debate, which was held one week to the day before the election (October 28).[24] On October 26, two days prior to the debate, Gallup released a survey that suggested that Carter was leading Reagan by a margin of 47% to 39%.

A Gallup Poll of July 26, 1988, showed Michael S. Dukakis leading George H. W. Bush by 17 points. The New York Times reported,

The liberal media lies. That's what they do.

But the Dems didn’t master the media, the polls and the dead vote like they do today.

Was voter fraud as much of an issue, and weaponized to the degree it is today, in 1980?

Like I posted earlier this AM. Think back. Has there EVER been a poll that had our side in the lead that was wrong? EVER? I can not recall one. Maybe it is just selective memory. Randomness requires that this should happen close to half the time but NEVER indicates randomness has no place in this. Bovine Scat is more valuable than these polls. At least it con be composted into fertilizer.

Only they call it “manufactured consensus.” I was working in the campaign that year, and in Texas, and that’s when I learned the polls were bull until the last weekend before Election Day. If they say it’s too close to call, that means they’re losing.

Yup, and it was the same old scary stuff, "he's an actor, not to be taken seriously" and "he's a cowboy, and will get us nuked". USSR was MUCH more seriously taken in those days. Even now, HRC & co. are trying to revive the Russian bogeyman.

To today's youth that's like invoking the fear of Japanese in 1970. Even Obama himself tried to zing Romney with his line about the '80s wanting their foreign policy back, when Romney describe Russia as a serious threat.

And there was a Rasmussen Poll on 10/20/12 that showed Romney leading by 4 points.

And in 2008 there was a Gallup Poll on 9/13/16 that showed McCain leading Obama by

It is now confirmed how powerful the Dem efforts are in voter fraud.

Bob Creamer. 340 visits to the White House.

Obama’s victories could be fraudulent.

I wish we have now the voting public we had back in the 1980s. The country has dramatically changed. If obama could run ag as in, he would probably win, thats how far we have declined. The last 2 presidential election polls were allot more accurate than they were 36 years ago. I do think Trump will do better than what the polls say, but I don’t hang my hat on ignoring the last several presidential polls and look at one decades old as a guide.

Another unique factor to this election cycle.. the Clintons have amassed hundreds of millions of dollars (or more) from the promise of access to government at its highest levels, with the money to be doled out to all the various down-line politicians and bureaucrats who play along. A Trump win is totally unacceptable and threats are being applied to ALL the troops.
Imagine, the donors threaten the Clinton grifters, who threaten the DNC and RINOS, who threaten the bureaucrats and Media heads, who threaten those below them.
Hillary’s rant of ‘We will all hang if Trump wins’ was very telling.
An army of liberals that will do anything to keep the status quo. I mean anything.

In 2012 I was sure Romney would win, regardless of what the polls said. Obama had been a failure, the economy was still in the tank (and STILL IS, by the way), and I was certain the American people would respond the way they always have: “Throw the bum out!”. I was so bummed watching the results come in.

This time around I’m again ignoring the polls, mainly because Trump isn’t Romney. Trump hasn’t rolled over and the media and GOPe hate him for it. If they have to rig some polls they will.

As I recall we were criticized for not believing the polls that showed Romney down by double digits.

Go back and look at the elections of 1960 and 1964....a lot of election fraud was going on in those days. The dead voter....much less, but that’s because you didn’t have absentee ballots being used for the general public (mostly for military members only) in those days.
