A Russian carrier fleet which passed through the English Channel today deployed heavily-armed guards to deter anyone approaching the warships.

A number of guards, equipped with AK-74 assault rifles and heavy machine guns were spotted on the flight deck of the Admiral Kuznetsov as it passed by the White Cliffs of Dover.

The powerful fleet was ordered to pass through the Channel, which is one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world, in single file.

The last time one saw such non-Western naval firepower in the Channel was the Kriegsmarine Channel Dash. :0 Pretty neat to be on a ferry as the task force went by.

Just guessing, but it looks as if the Admiral Kuznetsov is running on Number 6 oil...

The White cliffs of Dover is a trigger phrase related to WWII. Our media are a bunch of b*******.

I guess I knew that the Russians still adorn their vessels with the red commie star, but it nonetheless send a (bad) shiver down my spine to see it. If Hillary is elected these guys are going to eat us for lunch.

Hahaha….the DM writer who captioned the pictures of the Russian navy flotilla navigating the English Channel often refers to the “toxic smoke.” That is the typical cluelessness of Leftists who actually are more afraid of man-made “climate change” then man-made destroyers loaded with bombs! Some of the old Brits who remember WWII should clue in the imbeciles who know nothing about real threats to their country.

Some of the Putinistas on FR were earlier suggesting that the recent refit of the Admiral Kuznetsov included the installation of a nuclear power plant. Laughable.

I read the carrier has four steam turbines plus gas boilers. From the looks of the stack, I’d say she’s running some seriously heavy fuel oil.

We crossed the channel twice this past September... and I’ve been reading a lot of history of England. Lots of history here. If there are still true Englishmen they would be freaking out about now.

Like it or not, it’s call Freedom of Navigation. We too ascribe to it with armed response. (See Yemen)

The smoke may be intentional to gig the greenies.

Can you imagine what a Hillary Presidency would do to enlistment on our Military?? Frightening to think that it is already a Social Experiment.....four more years will completely destroy it.

Are these writers serious? Kutznetsov has steam turbines not diesels. 1 BC, 1 CV, 2 ASW DDs heading to landlocked eastern Med and they are going to “control the Atlantic”? So they sailed through the channel. Perfectly legal and this is why the USN sails through the South China Sea. Freedom of navigation. Peter the Great is the flagship of the northern fleet, or at least was when I bought the kit, and is the only Kirov on service I believe. Mean bastard if everything works.
Armed guards and HMGs. No different than other countries when sailing in tight areas and possibly hostile areas.
I wonder I the writers had to change underwear after writing this? Cool pictures.

Britain is on high alert as Russia's aircraft carrier the Admiral Kuznetsov passes Dover in a blatant show of strength by Valdimir Putin.

But back in Moscow, the vessel, launched 31 years ago in the Soviet era, is seen as 'the most problematic ship in the Navy'.

After this voyage it is set for major repairs because it cannot hit top speed - leading to serious limitation for the aircraft.

A recent report on the state of the ship highlighted 'violations of discipline' among a crew that rarely go to sea, but emphasised: 'The main problem of the Kuznetsov remains in its power plant.

'It is kept running only with the help of 'cannibalism' - when the necessary parts are taken from 956 class ships which use similar equipment,' said the report on Lenta.ru.

Far from being an icon of Putin's power, Russian observers see the ageing the vessel as a symbol of the lack of naval planning since the end of Soviet times.

'Numerous repairs in 1994-95, 1996-98, 2001-04 and 2008 could not improve the situation, mainly due to lack of financial investment,' one report stated.

The aircraft carriers chequered history is highlighted by the fact it has changed names four times.

Maybe it’s some kind of experimental cloaking device.
