Man takes extreme measures following stolen Trump signs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Co.(KXRM) – A traditional way of showing your support for presidential candidates may be bumper stickers or signs.

One local man has encountered his share of challenges in his effort to show his support for Donald Trump. Chuck Corry has made it a habit to post signs on his property but none have caused such a stir as the Donald Trump / Pence sign.

“I’m a Trump supporter,” Corry said. “But, I’m also pissed off.”

Corry is frustrated because he’s had to put up 5 signs over the last three weeks in his front yard. Now, he’s taken extreme measures to try and keep it intact.

The retired oceanographer added fence posts and put a spike board down. In case someone tries to run it over, they’ll sputter away with flat tires.

“I’ve been doing this for 16 years and I’ve had an occasional sign stolen. I’ve never had these kind of problems,” Corry said.

The 78-year-old has built in additional support to show his support. He’s put up plumbers tape, glue, steal cable, dog leash anchors and one more ingredient.

“Skunk spray!” Corry swears it’s been a deterrent. His sign has stood for a solid week. He’s also sprayed WD-40 on it too in case someone tries to paint over it.

Even the opposing party isn’t condoning this behavior.

Kathleen Ricker, the chair of the El Paso County Democrats said, “As long as we respect each other and rights to have signs, we’re all be okay. It’s our First Amendment right.”

Corry says he’s invested about $60 and six-man hours and he thinks it’s paid off – it’s been up for a solid week.

He said he’ll be ready if there’s another attempt to take it down.

“I’m a stubborn old man and a former Marine,” Corry added. “You wanna play games? Okay, I’m good at playing games.”

This is not an isolated incident.

It’s happened across the nation – one man in Lexington, Kentucky has chained his Trump sign to the ground to avoid theft.

Another man boobie-trapped his sign with electrical fence wire.

I buy equipment from the Ritchie Brothers auction and the last one i went to had several construction zone message boards that went cheap.

Another thought....rent a u haul trailer, cover it with Trump signs and drive it around town.

Got any left over christmas tree lights? Especially the high tech laser ones, spell VOTE TRUMP all night long.

An interesting idea. When I was a kid, we lived behind a big cherry orchard. The rancher kept a shotgun with rounds filled with rock salt. It was his way of discouraging would-be thieves. Nowadays, fogettaboutit.

I heard a story of a guy that had a bush that was almost dead because of the neighbors dog. He took a car coil and some fencing and when the dog lifted his leg he plugged in the coil. There was a blue arch and the dog went running off on three legs. Never came back.

He should try 3 rings of concertina wire with overlapping fields of fire from strategically placed claymores.

Well,, maybe not.. but .. it does keep squirrels and solicitors away.. but not in-laws. ;-)

My daughter works at a bookstore. Recently, a lady came in with her son seeking a book about the Constitution for kids. Seems the kid got caught by a neighbor defacing his Trump signs and the neighbor offered to teach the young malefactor about the Constitution.

To his mother’s credit, she accepted the offer.

...acids eat through a car’s paint...

Doesn't cola syrup fit the bill? Used to, iirc.

Not sure what cost is, but SodaStream sells the cola syrup.

I bet some kinds of acids eat through a car’s paint and be difficult to track.

My signs were getting stolen. I bought Tanglefoot Aerosol Spray on Amazon as my local nursery only had the brush on Tanglefoot.

It is a product for making insect sticky traps. I sprayed my signs with it. If there is a thief, he is going to be stuck to the sign. Plus the more you try to unstick the stickier it gets...long threads of sticky icky substance.

Of course he’s having problems.
The article says he was using “steal cable”.
Maybe he should try steel cable instead.

Get a small, lightweight Tile (tracking device with an iPhone app) and hide it bt placing it between the front/back sides of the sign. When it disappears thanks to some lefty loser track your sign down and enjoy the nerves and shock on the face of your neighbor or whomever.

I just was on a trip to Southern Colorado this weekend. El Paso county, where Colorado Springs is, is a chip shot for Trump, but outside of that I saw a lot of Trump signs, no Hillary signs, and a couple of Gary Johnson signs. This gives me hope that Southern Colorado will go Trump, and if that happens, he will win the state.

That was fast. Find your poison ivy and rub it “liberally” all over your new sign.

Wear your gloves and long sleeves. Make them pay.

I sprayed my sign with pepper spray . . . but I am not sure if I did it right. The spray was about 15 years old and it left white streaks all over my sign. Might have to go get another one and some new pepper spray.
