Poll: Catholics Support Hillary Clinton, Gay Marriage
National Catholic Review ^ | Aug 25 2016 | Michael O'Loughlin

Posted on 10/08/2016 5:02:00 AM PDT by daniel1212

More than half of all U.S. Catholics (52 percent) would cast a vote for Democrat Hillary Clinton if the election were held today, compared to just 32 percent for Republican Donald J. Trump...

More than three in four (76 percent) non-white and Hispanic Catholics would pick Clinton, with 13 percent choosing Trump.

Among white non-Hispanic Catholics, Clinton holds a much smaller lead, 44 percent to 41 percent....

Six in 10 (62 percent) white evangelicals say they would vote for Trump today, while 47 percent of white mainline Protestants pick Trump.

That comes from a new survey by the Public Religion Research Institute, whose findings mirror a similar poll conducted earlier this summer by the Pew Research Center.

Trump’s trouble with Catholic voters was foreshadowed during the primary season, when a group of reliably conservative Catholics urged their fellow believers in the Republican Party to resist Trump, even after he had all but sewn up the nomination.

Those concerns were renewed this week when The Hill reported on comments made by the newly tapped C.E.O of the Trump campaign, Stephen Bannon. The former head of the conservative website Breitbart News had accused the Catholic Church of supporting immigration reform only to boost its own membership.

“I understand why Catholics want as many Hispanics in this country as possible, because the church is dying in this country, right? If it was not for the Hispanics,” he said in March during a radio interview with Princeton University Professor Robert George..

Nearly seven in 10 (68 percent) of U.S. Catholics say they support same-sex marriage, up from just 35 percent in 2003. At the same time, Catholics are about split when asked if support for same-sex marriage goes against their religious beliefs (45 percent say that it does)... of the Catholic “Never Trump” movement.

About six in 10 Catholics (63 percent) say businesses should not be allowed to refuse services to gays and lesbians based on religious objections.

When it comes to how friendly religious institutions are to L.G.B.T. people, Catholics think better of their church than the American public does. Almost half of all Americans consider the Catholic Church to be “somewhat or very unfriendly” to L.G.B.T. people, with 35 percent seeing the Catholic Church as friendly.

The numbers are switched for Catholics, with 49 percent saying the church is friendly and 45 percent who say it is not.

While U.S. bishops have made fighting same-sex marriage a priority for several years, just 37 percent of Catholics report hearing the issue discussed by their priest in the past few months.

How interesting.

Do you still consider them Catholics when y’all want to do a head count and brag on 1.2 billion strong?

They sure enough are considered Catholics when it comes to counting numbers to brag on how big their church is.

Rather hypocritical, is it not?

They are not Catholic, they only think they are Catholic,

Says who? Who are you to differ from your church which affirms such as members in life and in death?

But Daniel look at it from your standpoint - they are really protestants, not really good protestants, but protestants none the less. They are just one banana peel away from joining you in your own smug satisfaction.

To the contrary, it is you who are acting according to what you condemn us for doing, that of ascertaining the validity of claims by examination of the supreme source for such, rather than, like docile sheep, following the pastors as per certain papal teaching.

They are however, as liberal Prots, for the problem is not ascertaining the validity of claims by examination of the supreme source for such, but that their supreme source is not Scripture as the wholly inspired and accurate word of God. Those who hold most strongly to that are the most conservative, even among Caths, but a minority do so, and your own NAB notes and helps are often quite liberal.

sorry; i didn’t post anything pro-Catholic nor anti-Christian- this is just another one of your desperate posts...

i simply noted with evidence that took 30 sec to find, you were relying on left wing sources for your data...you really are hitting rock bottom...

OK. If he’s wrong, the show us the current polls that show the majority of Catholics voting conservative or Republican as a voting block.

Post the poll results to show that he’s wrong instead of just stating *You’re wrong* with nothing to back it up.

We’re not just taking your word for it and mockery and derision is more fitting for liberal tactics than conservative dialog.

Go ahead. We’re waiting with bated breath.

wow- you really are ignorant..I’ve been to a lot of masses where the Catholic church has asked from the pulpit to stop abortion...i’ve been to pro-life walks where Catholic priests have been in attendance...they undertook an unprecedented “Fortnight for Freedom” against obama’s policies two years ago (http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/bs-md-fortnight-of-freedom-20120621-story.html)

should they require everyone to bring voting history cards with them?

I see no Protestant denomination that mirrors the Scriptures as Catholicism does; they all claim to be “Christian”, yet they ALL have embraced divorce, “gay marriage”, female clergy, etc. - though some adherents claim their specific sect of that branch hasn’t done so.

popular belief at FR is daniella is a DU troll.

Who is daniella?

And thank you for revealing current FRoman Catholic opinion because I don't know ANYONE from the non-Catholic position who has ever suggested that to me.

Nope.

You can accuse all you want.

Show us the poll data.

Otherwise, you have nothing.

And changing the subject isn’t going to work. I’ve seen that tactic enough to recognize it the first time someone tries it.

Yet in the NT we have an absence of Mary worship, indulgences, praying to the saints, purgatory, continual sacrifices for forgiveness, a papacy, cardinals, etc. in other words no roman Catholic Church.

Baloney.

Show us the statements of faith of all those Protestant churches that show that their official position embraces divorce, female clergy, and "etc" (whatever that means)

Throwing out mud hoping some will stick is a pretty poor way to debate.

And yes, you are correct, that no Protestant church mirrors Scripture as Catholicism does. It does have it's own misinterpretation down pat and no one else adheres to it.

Perhaps reading comprehension isn’t your strong suit. Go back and re-read the results of the polls in the post.

You posted no links showing that the majority of Catholics vote conservative and not liberal/democrat.

What you did was change the subject and show that some, or a few, are pro-life.

It in NO way disproves anything that dan said.

Your own church has said you have to be subject to the leadership. Perhaps you missed that.

“I see no Protestant denomination that mirrors the Scriptures as Catholicism does...”

At first I thought that was a ludicrous statement, but then I realized Rome does look an awful lot like the Whore of Babylon.
