Wobbles matter this close to the coast. Charley wobbled and went in to SW Florida further south than expected. Punta Gorda can attest to that.
I guess it all remains to be seen,no one has really documented strong winds so far but that should change.
Fast forward speed for a big strong storm like that if it has 140 mph winds and you add the forward speed it could be over 150.
Love the recon obs. What is the multiplier to decrease flight level winds down to sea level?
Fortune Bay is the name of a weather station near Freeport. Street name also. Settlement Point buoy, is located off the “West End” of island.

It will be the storm surge ..that does the most damage if it is ten feet
My kid was in Galveston for Ike and got four foot of water in the house..
It was the Bolivar peninsula that got swept clean by the storm surge
Outer eyewall clearly contracting - a very rapid ERC going on, apparently, and in time to be completed prior to landfall. Plus, the eye is now starting its pass over the Gulf Stream, not good. It is getting its act together right before landfall, and a strengthening hurricane is much worse at landfall than a weakening one.

Yeah I think you are right. Seems so far we have been getting off light since we are on the weak side of the storm.
Add the forward speed to the side of the storm with winds also moving the same direction. A storm with 100mph winds is moving 15mph N, add forward speed to the winds on the E side of the eyewall, as these winds are also moving N. This isn’t always on the dirty side. But it is confusing.
