Hurricane Matthew Live Thread II
NOAA/NHC ^ | October 6 2016 | NOAA/NHC

Posted on 10/06/2016 4:10:09 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Hurricane Matthew is big, bad and just downright scary, with iminent and sustained impacts to U.S. mainland. Florida Governor Rick Scott issued a state of emergency for all of Florida and disaster operations are activated. More than 1.5 million Floridians reside in current evacuation zones. Governor Scott has spoken with utilities across the state to ensure utilities are pre-positioned and there are no unmet needs. Multiple coastal hospitals have been evacuated. Meanwhile, feckless President Barack Hussein Obama is personally monitoring the progress of the storm.

We live about 100m inland and the track of Rita was just over our heads. One of my cousins literally went into labor and had her baby within 2 or 3 hours when Rita passed over. She was due the next week so, not a big deal. We still laugh about that.

As always, superb photos! Thank you. You have such a gift.

From what you have said, your family chose their location wisely and prepared well.

I’m sorry, man. I wasn’t trying to stir anything up.

Depending on the browser, it might have an option to show pictures. I am in recovery, safe here in Tennessee, after attempt 2 to fix my femur. I have a bad feeling for Savanah that I can not shake.

I’d be throwing a tornado warning for Edisto Beach SC about now. Special Marine warning up, but this circulation is persistent in both the time and altitude domain,...and getting stronger.

Thx NN.

What we really need is a merged plot. With projected velocities, rainfall and surge. In 3D. Maybe next ‘cane...in 2025. Warming, you know?

I just spoke with my brother and SIL, less than 1,000 ft from the St. John river in JAX. Power is out; phone is working. It’s raining hard and winds are strong. But not so strong he couldn’t go outside if he needed to. Light-to-middling tropical storm stuff. A tree is down, but the house is fine. His apartment in West Palm is up and running. This storm is a wet nuisance, but absolutely nothing to evacuate for. They made the right call. This storm was never going to be a danger for 90% of the Floridians urged to evacuate, even if it had wobbled more to the west. A problem for beach dwellers and not much more.

Clorox water, string, and a stick to bite on. Forceps if you have em. Not much else to do.

Last month I had a string of cyclic supercells with confirmed, repetitive histories inbound, with my neighbor’s wife freaking about puppies.

On the plus side, she usually freaks over storms so this time the distraction was almost welcome.

Our power has flickered a couple of times. Thankfully, it’s stayed. For us, its been a powerful tropical storm vs a full fledged hurricane. Peace be with your brother & everyone under threat by this storm.

Tell that to the woman who died today when she went out to feed her animals. Tree fell on her.

Sounds very exciting...2025 would be a good year for the next big hurricane.

I can’t see most photos online either (due to either Firefox or NoScript). However, I can view any and all photos if I choose to. Right click on the “invisible” photo and choose “view image”. You should be able to see the photos, now.

Reuters Fri Oct 7, 2016 | 5:52pm EDT:
In the town of Anse-d'Hainault, seven people died of cholera, a disease that did not exist in Haiti until U.N. peace keepers introduced it after a 2010 earthquake that killed some 200,000 people.

Another 17 cholera cases were reported in Chardonnieres on the south coast.

"Due to massive flooding and its impact on water and sanitation infrastructure, cholera cases are expected to surge after Hurricane Matthew and through the normal rainy season until the start of 2017," the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) said in a statement.
