FEC War: Dems Reject Call To Protect Internet News, Talk Radio From Regs

In the latest partisan escalation on the Federal Election Commission, a top Democratic commissioner has ripped a Republican commissioner's bid to protect books, radio and Internet media from regulation as "pitiful."

Ann Ravel, a former FEC chairwoman, joined other Democrats at a meeting this month to block Republican Lee Goodman's proposal to explicitly expand the "press exemption" from regulations to books, satellite radio and Internet-based news media.

In pushing his plan aside, Ravel said that she didn't have enough time to consider Goodman's proposal.

Goodman noted that the proposal has been under consideration for a while.

That prompted Ravel to mock that Goodman's public argument was meant to feed a story to the Washington Examiner, which has covered his concerns that FEC Democrats are trying to regulate conservative media, especially news outlets and news aggregators like the Drudge Report that are online.

"I presume you're just trying to utilize this argument for the Washington Examiner," she said.

That comment was tweeted by Dave Levinthal, a senior reporter for the Center for Public Integrity, who follows elections and the FEC.

Ravel later tweeted a correction. "@davelevinthal @dcexaminer @FEC actually I was wrong, Dave. He chose the Daily Caller instead. Pitiful."

Talk about arrogant. These are the types of people that need to be jettisoned from their government jobs, pronto.

One day the Dems will rue the day when they could have helped to stop this transference of power and did nothing but make pinheaded partisan arguments. Same thing for the weak kneed GOPe RINOs, too timid to open their mouths. Could it be that the median age for Congress is my age (60) or higher, and they still don’t understand the significance of all those ‘interwebbings’?

Wait til the tables are turned and they’re forbidden from having talk shows or political discussions. These stupid f$cks don’t realize the pendulum swings both ways.

What a coincidence that the Internet handoff occurred a month ahead of the elections isn’t it?

Yup.

Obama has a rush on to injure the country as much as possible while he can.

More and more I think things are going to come down to someone getting a strong “talking to” in a dark parking garage somewhere in D.C.

The real answer. Well said. Communism is incompatible with our constitution. It is and always has been a seditious revolutionary movement. We need to immediately treat it as such. Once done, American life will improve almost immediately.

The right would be quite unlikely to try to game away the Democrat strongholds, even though the favor wouldn’t be returned.

Maybe the reason the McCarthy effort came to an inglorious end, was that it was trying to ape the “mob manipulation” techniques that the Communists themselves used. Try a little too hard to engineer extralegal, extrapolitical ostracism, and it will turn on you. The critiques that turned McCarthy back actually look pretty fair and balanced by modern standards.

There are very few effectual “immediates” in the life of a country that don’t entail counterproductive effects that aren’t so immediate but nonetheless ghastly.

The thing that works is not so much a “Devil is bad” campaign as a “God is good” one. The devil will relish the attention, even negative attention, and often manage to turn it to some other advantage. God will more slowly, yet more inexorably, fill the situation and simply shut the devil out by leaving no place where he can go.

The communists stopped McCarthy using their standard mob manipulation techniques. Recall the “Have you no shame?” TV show? Truth was McCarthy knew the names of the soviet spys in the administration b/c we had cracked the soviet code. Name calling won’t get rid of them. Communists are about the most evil thing manikind has developed. Sorta like Taliban without the moral compass. If this nation is to survive the commies have to go. Know you know this. Some might not. My bed time, 0300 comes early. Have a good evening HTRN.
