Why Iran is more dangerous than Islamic State
Los Angeles Times ^ | September 29, 2016 4:00 AM | Moshe Ya’alon

U.S. political leaders of both parties argue that destroying Islamic State is America’s top priority in the Middle East. In reality, that’s not nearly as important as confronting the challenge posed by Iran. The nuclear deal that went into effect a year ago may have postponed the danger of an Iranian nuclear bomb, but the multifaceted threat of a militaristic, messianic Iran — 80-million strong — is much more menacing to Western interests than the Sunni thugs and murderers of Raqqah and Mosul. […]

From Tehran’s perspective, it gained much more than it gave up. In exchange for postponing its military nuclear project, it achieved the lifting of many economic sanctions, an end to its political isolation and the loosening of restrictions on its ballistic missile program.

And out of the P5+1’s exaggerated fear of taking any steps that might give the Iranians an excuse to scuttle the deal, Tehran won a lot more too. This includes wide latitude to advance its influence throughout the region as it no longer fears a U.S.-led “military option.” …

The nuclear deal is good for the defense business.

Boeing and other companies wanted to do business with Iran and have sanctions lifted.

Now that Iran is building up the Gulf Arabs want weapons to defend themselves and Boeing and other companies are ready to give it to the Saudis, Qataris, UAE etc.....

Israel and the US are jointly developing anti ballistic missile technology and I read of the notion that Israel’s existing short range anti missile system will be sold to the Gulf Arabs through a US company.

From Real Clear Politics, Sept 10, 2015...

"In a 2014 New Yorker interview, Obama said his goal was to create a 'new equilibrium' in the Middle East.

In the short run, at least, his signature diplomatic undertaking can be counted on to bring more violence to this volatile region.

The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, as the [Obama-Putin Iran deal] agreement is formally known, provides the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism an infusion of somewhere in the neighborhood of $100 billion of unfrozen assets and a great deal more of continuing revenues as businesses and governments around the world rush to profit from oil-and-gas-rich Iran's reintegration into the world economy.

The agreement relaxes the international isolation of the Islamic Republic and ratifies Tehran's status as a nuclear threshold state. And it relieves restrictions on Iran's acquisition of weapons, including ballistic missiles. ..."

Some people, “experts” say Iran is the biggest terrorist threat; I don’t know if I go along with that. We should not though, have agreed to that treaty.

This sounds like nothing more than a stupid rationalization for the U.S. to topple the Iranian-backed Assad regime in Syria.

Disagreeing with Iran being the largest terror threat is agreeing with Obama. He knew what he was doing.

When did that happen? Obama sure didn’t do it.

When a regime constantly chants “Death to America” and “Death to Israel”, they would actually mean it.

The Republicans led by Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, enabled the Iran Deal with Corker Bill.

The Corker Bill raised the threshold of approving the Iran Deal to 2/3 of the US Senate voting “No”, a treaty would normally go down with a 1/3 ‘No’ vote.

Rush Limbaugh said something on his radio show about American companies wanting to do business with Iran again with Boeing being one example and that’s why the Corker Bill was passed.

The AIPAC (”Israel Lobby”) group still considers all Senators who were “Pro-Israel” and voted for the Iran Deal to be “Pro-Israel” with no electoral consequences like withdrawing support.

They cut a deal with Iran while at the same time they are taking down the Iranian allied government in Syria.

I think Obama and the other “world leaders” know what they are doing but their lust for toppling Assad in Syria may get us into a war with Russia, especially if Hillary Clinton is POTUS.

Disagreeing with Iran being the largest terror threat may also be agreeing with Pat Buchanan, John Bolton or others. I don't see Iranians cutting off the heads of Christians, others in the Middle East whenever they can, every day.

Iran is Syria's big ally, a regime many people see as being the lesser evil vs. ISIS.

I totally disagree. While I would not have handed over the bomb to them and 1 trillion dollars— they are nothing compared to the Sunnis. Let me call your attention to the sunni isis bastards killing thousand— putting them in cages and burning them alive on video — acid pools on video. Caged drownings? thousands of innocent Cristian’s slaughtered ? Here is one for you to contemplate— The Saudi government sponsored and directly supported the 9/11 hijackers knowing that the flight lesson they were paying for did not include LANDING 727s. ALL SUNNIS!!! All of it!!— Much more. Did you know that Shiites do not do suicide bombings? None-— Sunnis do them all over Iraq every week.Did you know that San Bernadino— an the Orlando bar and Maj, Nidal Hassan at ft, hood and SOOOO many more attacks were all Sunni? NO!!! you didn’t know that because it is obfuscated by the government media. Do you know how many Shiite attacks have occurred in this country? A BIG FAT ZERO!! Try to have a clue about this— please. It is so simple to read the facts. Did you know that the Shiite Iranians are killing these sunni bastards in Syria ? Please help yourself get informed.

Agreed, as if we haven’t already stepped in it over there.

Iran is mainly a threat to Israel; but I’m not even sure if they would attack Israel; yes, one can trot out all kinds of lines about what some Iranian politicians and clergy have said about Israel. It might just be saber rattling.

And billions of dollars will be earned by US defense contractors working with Israel to develop the anti-missile systems (the work has been underway for years and will continue with new $38 billion dollar deal) that will be sold to the Saudis and Gulf Arabs to protect them from a potential Iranian attack.

There are several Sunni nations that have had the bomb for many years; I think we know who they are, and they are not “moderate” either. When did their first terror nuke go off in a target country?

It is still true that two of the three major state sponsors of Islamic terror are Sunni countries and they should never get the nuke, of course. Iran is still on top, and they are yet more nihilistic, and that’s apart from the “Death to America/Israel/Europe” rhetoric. The very fact that Obama pushed for this bad deal from the start of his presidency ought to spell everything out.

No, it is not just saber rattling.

Iran has their hands in every form of Islamic terrorism, even sock-puppet ISIS; it’s in their constitution that they regard all Muslim-dominated nations to be part of their big happy Islamic family.

You don’t see them doing this? Just go to Iraq, then. Or Mexico, even.
