Why Iran is more dangerous than Islamic State
Los Angeles Times ^ | September 29, 2016 4:00 AM | Moshe Ya’alon

Posted on 10/02/2016 8:13:25 PM PDT by Olog-hai

U.S. political leaders of both parties argue that destroying Islamic State is America’s top priority in the Middle East. In reality, that’s not nearly as important as confronting the challenge posed by Iran. The nuclear deal that went into effect a year ago may have postponed the danger of an Iranian nuclear bomb, but the multifaceted threat of a militaristic, messianic Iran — 80-million strong — is much more menacing to Western interests than the Sunni thugs and murderers of Raqqah and Mosul. […]

From Tehran’s perspective, it gained much more than it gave up. In exchange for postponing its military nuclear project, it achieved the lifting of many economic sanctions, an end to its political isolation and the loosening of restrictions on its ballistic missile program.

And out of the P5+1’s exaggerated fear of taking any steps that might give the Iranians an excuse to scuttle the deal, Tehran won a lot more too. This includes wide latitude to advance its influence throughout the region as it no longer fears a U.S.-led “military option.” …

Iran, the Shiites do in fact, honor the suicide bombers that blew up 250 Marines and also some French forces in Beirut.

Most sources, would say Syria assisted in the bombing as well.

Former Senator Lieberman is real wary of Iran, make of that whatever one wants.

Iran is a lot more Christian -- they allow Christians to worship, build their churches and live as well as granting them representation in Parliament.

Contrast this with Saudia which doesn't allow Christians to hold citizenship

The Twelver nihilism is hardly a cause for worry in comparison with the Sunni Saudi and Pakistani nuclear weapon.

The choice is simple -- either we support one Moslem murderous sect (we support Sunnis) or we tell them both to go to Hades and let them kill each other

I'm in favour of the latter -- we should stop supporting Saudia and Pakistan and NOT support Iran.

And as for Ba’ath Christians, they sold their souls for their form of Arab National Socialism and an evil alliance with both Sunni and Alawite Muslims. I’ve read their manifesto. It will not end well.

Slaves have no other choice. Arab Nationalism vs Islamic rule -- which would you choose?

Some people would choose not to live as slaves. The Boxer Rebellion comes to mind.

However, I suspect the whole Arab Nationalism/Socialism thing still appeals to them.

The Boxer Rebellion was in 1899 after decades of foreign domination of China and where the protagonists were the majority. The Christians in Iraq have always been a minority and especially so at the start of the 1900s.

Socialism positions equality of people, which is why oppressed people such as Christians under Moslem rule or Jews in Europe were attracted to it.

The USA doesn't do socialism but it promotes equal-opportunity capitalism.

Offer people equal opportunity and the rest of the economic construct doesn't matter to them

Iran and its proxies have killed thousands of Americans. “Death to America” is essentially a national motto, chanted in its parliament. And they are developing nuclear weapons and ICBMs. They are a threat in a way that ISIS is not. And they are responsible for ISIS. The Iranian-dominated Iraqi government treated the Iraqi Sunnis horribly, cutting them out of power and bringing in Iranian advisors to train the national army into an anti-Sunni sectarian front. The Sunni Arabs were pushed back into the hands of what had been Al Qaeda in Iraq. But AQI operated out of Western Syria with the aid of the Ba’athist Syrians. Iran and Syria are not the counters to ISIL but it handmaiden. Each uses the other for an excuse to gain power thank to Oabama’s weakness and delusions.

Much more. Did you know that Shiites do not do suicide bombings?
Drop the Trump and Putin branded meth pipe and do an iota of research. The Shiite Muslims backed by Iran all but invented the use of terror suicide bombings. I can't think of any that occurred before the Iranin-backed Shi'ite Dawa Party and Hezbollah popularize these during the Lebanese Civil War in the 1980's. Hizbullah suicide bombed the American embassy and Marine Barracks in Beirut. And then there was the Khobar Towers bombing of 1996, where the Iranian backed Shi'ite Hezbollah Al-Hejaz killed 20 Americans and wounded hundreds. If you don't know this, you are not qualified to comment on this subject.
I can list more Shi'ite attacks against America and point out that Iran is developing nuclear Weapons and ICBMs. But I won't waste my time and effort on those screaming their ignorance.

Now list Iran-an backed attacks on America and explain why they don't matter.
Then explain why "Death to America" being all but the state motto of the Islamic Republic of Iran doesn't matter.
Then explain why their nuclear weapons and ICBM programs don't matter.
In the real world, as adults know, you can have multiple enemies.

"thousands of Americans" -- where?

And any more than the 3000 killed by Sunni Saudis?

The regime may shout (and they’ve stopped that recently, replacing it with death to the Sauds) but the people on the streets don’t care about those two. The people in Iran hate the Saudis, not Americans or Israelis

wendle Do you know how many Shiite attacks have occurred in this country? A BIG FAT ZERO

Correct. What we should do is stop giving money, weapons and soldiers to protect the Saudis and Pakis. Let the Sunnis and Shias fight to the death and we stay out of it -- the only thing we should do is contain the action and protect Israel and Christians / Yazidis.

The Pakis keep their nukes so that other countries don’t step in and destroy the Paki terrorist training camps

It is real curious that this article has close to the same name and idea as this article.

Some things the article says, I did not know, such as that the Iranian leader Rouhani was instrumental in the Beirut Marine Barracks attack.

“Iran has evidently harbored senior Al Qaeda operatives since 9/11, including facilitating the flow of fighters and funds to al-Qaeda through Iran — a kind of jihadi pipeline. In the mid-1990s, reported the Clarion Project, Iran negotiated an agreement with Osama Bin Laden to allow al-Qaeda terrorists to freely transit Iran.”

Khobar Towers bombing - 20 dead, 498 injured
1983 Beirut barracks bombings - 220 Americans dead, 75 plus wounded 1984 United States embassy annex bombing - 24 dead

And any more than the 3000 killed by Sunni Saudis?
No, but the Saudi government didn't order September 11th or orchestrate it.
