Apple is using an office in Israel to develop hardware for the "iPhone 8," which is expected to be released next year with a radical redesign, according to an employee at the site.
Details on the iPhone 8 are scarce, but some reports, including this one from MacRumours, suggest that it will have an edge-to-edge display that removes the need for the top and bottom bezels where features like the fingerprint sensor and the front-facing camera are located.

Wonder if it will have a headphone jack.
I hate having to drill my own.
8’ is too big for a phone.
Though full body apps would be cool.
I have no idea why people want to cling to old technology. I mean, really old technology. I used the same jack to plug the earphone into my AM transistor radio back in the 1960s. That thin flimsy cord was always snagging on something and making the device fly out of my pocket. Maybe I'm just clumsy but I love my wireless earbuds.
Great point!! When theyre done with this version the only bit that will work correctly is one of Apple’s own patented design. Then theyll get you for the cost of the iphone and drill bit. Apple sure is a sneaky underhanded bunch!! :( I strongly suspect tho the interwebs will come thru with a solution....they always do.
Me too. It took me 4 tries before I got it right.
It isn't as easy to find that hidden jack as people think. But I have the lightest iPhone 7 on my block so there is some benefit.
Maybe they’ll add a Terabyte memory chip..............
I bet it looks like SWISS CHEESE BY NOW!..................
Can’t fly on most Asian-based airlines and use Bluetooth. It’s banned. So wireless is out.
Not to mention that the only Bluetooth CODEC that sounds decent is AptX HD, from CSR. Macs support that CODEC - but iOS does not.
So, lower quality sound, can’t use it on many air flights, and Yet Another Thing to charge. Hard to beat a physical jack! And considering there are thinner and waterproof phones out there with the jack, there’s really no reason not to have that jack.
Yes, I know there is an adapter - good of Apple to supply it. However, if you want to charge at the same time as listen - you’re out of luck...
Is this too important to give the job to American engineers?
No way. Only one of the holes is through the glass and I drilled one on the wrong end.
Silly me.
My wife’s LG G3 died a bit prematurely. Her company connects eveyone with software that is friendly to iPhones. I was going to replace it with an iPhone but did research. I had to relearn why I don’t touch apple products in the first place. “Proprietary” is the word of the day.
I got her an LG G4.
I’m still ticked that her new car doesn’t have a CD player though...
Wow, they are going to copy all the android designs like LG.
VERY innovative.
Well, now you can pass a cord thru it and wear it like a necklace...............
I just hate the way cables always snag on things, get frayed, get all dirty, etc. The wireless sound quality will continue to improve.
Don’t wireless things use batteries?
You can have my 8-Track player when you pry it out of the cold dead dashboard of my Chevy Vega!
I think you’re right, as I HATE untangling my wired Beats. BUT... there are too many of every peripheral to pick from these days and I end up giving up in the research phase.
I have no idea why people want to cling to old technology.
Wireless is a great thing, but batteries are a pain.
I think wires will go away, but not any time soon.
I hope wireless sound quality improves - but right now, it’s pretty blocked. And with many modes of transport banning the use of wireless headphones, you still need some alternative solution.
I flight LAX to HKG about 8 times a year, and that’s a 14.5 hour flight. I listen to music and read. It’s great to be able to have my earbuds in, and my phone plugged into the charger. When I land, I have a 100% charge. Pop in the HK SIM card and away I go...
Couldn’t do that without separate physical audio jacks and charging ports.
