Prosecutors rested their case Tuesday against Ammon Bundy and six co-defendants after presenting jurors with a dramatic display of firearms, including 22 long guns and 12 handguns seized from the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.

The presentation capped 10 days of testimony in the federal conspiracy case against Ammon Bundy, older brother Ryan Bundy and five others. Defense lawyers and the defendants representing themselves will start their case Wednesday.

One by one, FBI agent Ronnie Walker handed each gun to fellow agent Nick Vanicelli on the witness stand.....

While defense lawyers were quick to point out through cross-examination that none of the guns or ammunition were illegal, prosecutors hoped to show that the mere volume, presence and use of the some of the firearms for target practice reveal the defendants' intent to intimidate refuge employees...

Fry's lawyer Per C. Olson asked, "Any of them tied back to David Fry in any way?"

Vanicelli said he didn't think so.

Defense lawyer Robert Salisbury established that his client, Jeff Banta, had lawfully bought a 12-gauge Remington shotgun found unloaded in the encampment, inside his white truck with Nevada plates.

(Marcus) Mumford repeatedly asked Vanicelli if he knew who drove the vehicles to the encampment of if he had done further investigation into who owned the firearms.

He said he didn't, that his sole job was to identify and collect the firearms.....

"Are any of these guns illegal?" defendant Ryan Bundy asked Vanicelli.

"Not that I'm aware of", the agent replied.

"Are any of the ammunition illegal?" Ryan Bundy asked.

"Not that I'm aware of," Vanicelli said again.

Attorney Matthew Schindler, on behalf of Medenbach, asked agent Walker, "How many live rounds were fired at employees of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge?'

Walker responded that live rounds weren't fired.

"Good point sir," Schindler said......

At the Oregon Standoff Trial yesterday, more demonization of firearms in front of the jury. None of the guns displayed were fired in anger during the protest while the FBI guns were the first to fire in the only use of firearms, a deadly barrage that took the life of LaVoy Finicum.

The defense will start making their case today with Sheriff Dave Ward and FBI agents being called back to the stand in the days ahead by the defense.

If the Feds only went after the real criminals in the government with the same hate and vengeance they have for patriots...

Weapons included a "Smith & Wesson .357-caliber handgun was seen lying inside a cooler, beside a container of pistachio nuts, in the tent at the encampment." A Winchester Model 94 (lever action deer rifle, probably a 30-30) and a 12 gauge New England Arms single shot shotgun. The only "tactical" weapon mentioned was an SKS.

Where are the ARs? Where are the AKs? This sounds more like the "arsenal" a bunch of guys would pack for a hunting or camping trip than a revolution.

It would be nice to see a display of the arms held by the federal agents. Everything from armored vehicles to full auto weapons and explosives. And, then there’s that.

Maybe the defense should subpoena the guns and equipment brought in by the Feds for similar display.

I disagree with many of the actions taken at that wildlife refuge, but this prosecution is absurd. Turning target practice into a crime is an act of evil, one that clearly violates the Second Amendment.

Sorry Bundy is having to go thru this, but he could have accomplished much more by getting hyper-involved politically. That’s how the secular socialists have acquired so much power. Dedicated persistence accomplishes more than foolish outbursts that are easily quashed.

“...all the weapons were unloaded and “rendered safe.’”

We all know what “rendered safe” means. Might as well make reading lamps out of them now.

I have said repeatedly that this whole thing amounts to no more than criminal trespass and depending on who you believe vandalism. This kind of stuff is worth about a $1000 fine and 6 mos in the county slam at worst.

The govt is trying to put people away for 10 years for civil disobedience. It has to be stopped. If they get convicted Trump needs to step in and give full pardons on hjis first day in office. And pardons to the Hammond’s.

Meanwhile....carnage in Chicago is ignored. As has been the case for their entire history, the FBI went for a spotlight and for the work that would most increase their power and political position.
They capped it of with an extrajudicial murder of Lavoy Finicum.

The agents disregarded every legal restriction that they would demand to see a local police department follow.
