Syria airstrikes kill 85 people in Aleppo amid diplomatic row

Syrian forces pounded rebel-held eastern Aleppo on Sunday, killing at least 85 people and wounding more than 300 others, an activist group reported. The bombardment destroyed residential centers, overwhelmed hospitals and angered diplomats meeting at the United Nations.

"Everyone in Aleppo is depressed," an activist on the ground told CNN.

"They don't know what they have done to become targets for warplanes. Fear is clear in the eyes of anyone you see walking the streets of Aleppo. Yesterday I saw a woman walking on the street and crying , no clear reason, just crying."

Hundreds of airstrikes have pummeled the city, home to more than 250,000 people, since the Syrian government, backed by Russia, announced a renewed, "comprehensive" offensive Thursday following the collapse of a short-lived ceasefire.

A video has surfaced of Presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama talking on his plans for strategic issues such as nuclear weapons and missile defense.

The full text from the video, as released, reads as follows:

Thanks so much for the Caucus4Priorities, for the great work you've been doing. As president, I will end misguided defense policies and stand with Caucus4Priorities in fighting special interests in Washington.

First, I'll stop spending $9 billion a month in Iraq. I'm the only major candidate who opposed this war from the beginning. And as president I will end it.[i.e. not win it]

Second, I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending.

I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems.

I will not weaponize space.

I will slow our development of future combat systems.

And I will institute an independent "Defense Priorities Board" to ensure that the Quadrennial Defense Review is not used to justify unnecessary spending.

Third, I will set a goal of a world without nuclear weapons. The specific mention of missile defense is worrisome enough. Mr. Obama has retreated from the missile defense plan that was negotiated with European allies during the George W. Bush administration. Apparently, he is signaling Moscow that he intends to retreat further. The clear implication from the president's comments is that he cannot tell the American people before the election what he plans to do after the election.

In addition, there is the phrase "on all these issues," implying more is at stake than just missile defense."

But we, the U.S. and its Anglo-lackeys, started this civil war to remove Assad and create a Sunnite state. This destruction of Syria has been in the works for a long time. Back during the early part of the Iraq War, current ODNI James Clapper, then head of U.S. National Geospatial Agency, said there was proof that the Iraqi WMDs were moved to Syria. Unrelatedly, neocon instrument Judith Miller was allowed to post an above-the-fold front page article in the NYT saying there were unnamed Iraqi generals who said the WMDs had been moved to Syria. So, the attempts at instigating a destruction of Syria have been active for a while. And in the planning stages since at least Clean Break. And after Syria, Iran is next up for destruction.
