Info from here.

Robert F. Stryker (November 9, 1944-November 7, 1967) was a United States Army soldier received the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Vietnam War.  He is buried in Pine Hill Cemetery Throop, New York.  The Army Stryker vehicle is named in his and PFC Stuart S. Stryker's honor.

Rank and organization: Specialist Four, U.S. Army, Company C, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division.

Place and date: Near Loc Ninh, Republic of Vietnam, November 7, 1967.

Entered service at: Throop, N.Y.

Born: November 9, 1944, Auburn, N.Y.

Citation:

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. Specialist Stryker, U.S. Army, distinguished himself while serving with Company C. Spec. Stryker was serving as a grenadier in a multicompany reconnaissance in force near Loc Ninh. As his unit moved through the dense underbrush, it was suddenly met with a hail of rocket, automatic weapons and small arms fire from enemy forces concealed in fortified bunkers and in the surrounding trees. Reacting quickly, Spec. Stryker fired into the enemy positions with his grenade launcher. During the devastating exchange of fire, Spec. Stryker detected enemy elements attempting to encircle his company and isolate it from the main body of the friendly force. Undaunted by the enemy machinegun and small-arms fire, Spec. Stryker repeatedly fired grenades into the trees, killing enemy snipers and enabling his comrades to sever the attempted encirclement. As the battle continued, Spec. Stryker observed several wounded members of his squad in the killing zone of an enemy claymore mine. With complete disregard for his safety, he threw himself upon the mine as it was detonated. He was mortally wounded as his body absorbed the blast and shielded his comrades from the explosion. His unselfish actions were responsible for saving the lives of at least 6 of his fellow soldiers. Spec. Stryker's great personal bravery was in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the U.S. Army.

Please remember the Canteen is here to honor, support and entertain our troops and their families.  This is a politics-free zone!  Thanks for helping us in our mission!

Finally back online....a glitch in ?????

And a lock up of my desktop, but it restarted just fine. But I do think the fan is dead.

Glad the harvest is going quickly, a bummer that you have no rain.

But your Dad’s flowers are happy that you watered them.

Sleep well when you get there.

I’m off.

Good morning, Canteen.

Good morning to our

Military, our Allies, and their families.

Thank you, Star, for preparing the Canteen
for today’s activities.

Thanks for giving us history on another hero.
KUDOS and thank you to Robert Stryker.

Checking in to see how everyone
faired over the weekend.
It's a crazy world, with weather and rioting.

It's hard to believe that September is almost over...
this is the last week.

Busy months ahead over my way.

If all goes well, I'll start working out
with my DIL at a local gym.
We are going to do early morning workout,
which we hope will not interfere
with our normal day activities
(her work; me projects/writing).
However, this will cut into my morning computer time,
which means I won't be around much
(or more "post-n-run" mornings)
unless I can find time later in the day.

This leads me to: if you need my attention specifically,
please FReepmail me as a ping might get lost in the crowd.

Gonna catch up on pings.
But please stay right where you are.
Chat up the military or a family member.
No need to fret...you know I'll be back!

The FR Canteen is

Come in and sit for a while.
There's always plenty of coffee, tea,
pancakes, conversation, silliness,
and plain old BS

REMEMBER THEM ~ DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM

FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT

Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allied military and the family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.

NFL viewing is already down significantly. That’s a good thing. And tonight their game vs the debate will be way down.
