A prominent and controversial Jordanian writer, who was on trial for sharing a cartoon deemed offensive to Islam, has been shot dead outside the court in Amman where he was due to appear. *snip*
Having been arrested in August, the Christian writer was released on bail in early September. On Sunday, he was shot in the head three times as he arrived for a hearing.

I’ve read several translations of the Koran, took a course in college on Islamic civilizations, knew Muslims in grad school, worked professionally with Muslims, traveled to their countries on business several times. Ok, “History of Religions, Origins & Development” is not my field, I am an engineer, but here’s my personal conclusion on it drawn mostly from experience & observation.
It’s a bad bad copy of Judaism! I know the current Catholic & Protestant seminarian academic view is its a surviving Gnostic Christian heresy - from a Gnostic group called the Elbionites (I am sure I spelled that wrong!) That’s least what two clergy pals (Catholic & Protestant) have told me. I’ve done a little reading that’s seem to confirm what they said about it being the current academic viewpoint. However I still don’t see it! My conclusion is its a horribly bad copy of Judaism with some Christian elements thrown in. My conclusion explains their utter disdain & hatred of the Jews all the way back to when Mohammed ordered the massacre of that northern Arabia Jewish tribe. Because psychologically they know what they have and practice is “inferior”, they know it came from somewhere else - the Jews!. Their tribal driven sense of religious superiority all rests on a lie, on a foundation of sand. So they have to over compensate, strike out violently at the infidels eliminate those who either know or can piece together the truth. Each “unbeliever” killed validates their belief system gives them the inner sense of superiority they need to keep being a believer.
Correlations with Judaism: strictly monotheistic, very rule & right practice oriented, very very focused on the sacred literature and its inerrancy, also very focused on its sacred language- Arabic (But which Arabic?), clergy training that very closely resembles medieval & Renaissance rabbinical schools in practice & behavior. There are scores of other correlations. (But I am tired of typing!)
Now please don’t anyone interpret what I have written as an attack on Judaism, or as an effort equate them or as any sort of approval of Islam. These are just my conclusions based on observations and some study.
All of this makes them dangerous to have in your society in any great number. Liberals have a hard time understanding Islam because liberals think religion is all nonsense. They can’t understand anyone motivated by a religion to simply kill innocents because the religion demands they do so.
There certainly are many good and decent Muslims. Maybe most are good and decent

Oh, sorry. I wasn't aware that I had to run all my posts past you first. Perhaps you bought Free Republic from JR, and I just missed that news.
Be that as it may, it's not a perfect analogy, but I see the today's Muslims much like German members of the Nazi party back in 1936. Some are true believers, some are complicit by their inaction, and some are just going along for the ride.
If you have a reasoned response, I'd like to hear it. I enjoy a good debate, and sometimes I even learn something. But insults rarely move me.

You are right. Islam is pushing hard, and in order to survive, we need to push back, harder. Otherwise, all is lost. There is no appeasement, despite what the PC crowd thinks.
