The shock for Democrats if Clinton loses will likely be more severe than for Republicans if Trump loses. Two decades ago, self-described moderates, and even conservatives, voted in Democratic primaries. Not so these days. The slump in Democratic primary and caucus turnout, from 38 million in 2008 to 31 million in 2016, was due to a sharp decline in turnout by self-described moderates.

2. The losses in smaller elections have wiped out up and coming Democrats for the future, including state houses, local elections, etc, thanks to radicalized policies the democratic leaders support
That is when politicians run as conservatives/Republicans and win. And then once they are in vote liberal/democrat.

For the Dems, it's all about whites becoming an ever-shrinking demographic. If rampant immigration continues, and ever-more anchor babies are born, then it won't matter if Trump wins in 2016 -- because the Republicans will lose every election after 2024.
