Skagit and North Whatcom Counties both have large Hispanic populations working agriculture. In recent years the gangs there have gone from a bunch of wannabes to shooting at each other.

In Lynden, which is northern Whatcom near the border, we have a Hispanic population working at the meat packing plant, the dairy processing center and a few of the larger farms. They mostly live in what I call the "low rent district" in Lynden. A few live by me, and they're hard workers.

I haven't run across gang activity in town. I would assume they would be more active in Bellingham.
