Schumer rips 'disappointing' 9/11 bill veto, pledges override

Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Friday criticized President Obama's veto of legislation allowing families of 9/11 victims to sue Saudi Arabia in U.S. courts, predicting Congress will quickly overturn the decision.

“This is a disappointing decision that will be swiftly and soundly overturned in Congress," Schumer, expected to be the next Senate Democratic leader, said in a statement Friday. "I believe both parties will come together next week to make JASTA the law of the land."

Schumer — echoing a familiar line from supporters of the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA) — added that "if the Saudis did nothing wrong, they should not fear this legislation."

"If they were culpable in 9/11, they should be held accountable. The families of the victims of 9/11 deserve their day in court, and justice for those families shouldn’t be thrown overboard because of diplomatic concerns," he said.

Interesting. I am guessing Schumer is in no trouble losing his district. Or is he up for re-election?

The bill passed Congress unanimously, there were Islamic terrorist attacks just last week, and many in Congress are up for re-election in 6 weeks ....

anybody in Congress voting against this is committing political suicide, and they know it

... of course, Obama votes against the bill because (a) he’s a Muslim-appeaser, and (b) he’s an asshole.

With any luck, Schumer will be retired or defeated before the Democrats control the Senate again.

Schumer makes Reid look like a moderate.

Could it be something simple like the depth of passion New Yorkers feel about the 911 attack? hillary, not so much, since she’s a carpetbagger.

You’re right. I understand why members of Congress would feel the urge to engage in this kind of political pandering, but this will go down as one of the dumbest pieces of Federal legislation ever passed.
