IRS chief Koskinen says he was misled, doesn’t deserve impeachment

While acknowledging that the IRS bungled tea party applications, and that he himself gave wrong information to Congress, agency Commissioner John Koskinen told lawmakers Wednesday he needs to remain at the IRS in order to clean it up.

At a hearing designed to lay the ground for his possible impeachment, Mr. Koskinen implied he was let down by his subordinates, who allowed hundreds of backup tapes to be destroyed, losing tens of thousands of emails from former senior executive Lois G. Lerner.

It is the loss of those emails, even as they were under a subpoena issued by Congress, that has landed Mr. Koskinen in the hot seat, with conservative Republicans demanding he be ousted from office for his behavior.

This lying little weasel looks like he had his lunch-money taken away from him all through high school and now is getting payback.

The sad part is that in Washington this is often an effective strategy.

“At a hearing designed to lay the ground for his possible impeachment, Mr. Koskinen implied he was let down by his subordinates...”

There are only two possibilities here, he was complicit or he was incompetent. He’s going with the incompetent defense. Can’t do that and then also claim that he is competent enough to stay in the job.

If he had any self respect he would just resign.

“I accept that it is up to you to judge my overall record, but I believe impeachment would be improper,” Mr. Koskinen told the House Judiciary Committee.

Remember a time when Government officials would resign in disgrace? There is no more ‘honor’ among these thieves - they are ALL despicable! (DEPLORABLE gov’t butt munchers?)

If he has already fired and referred all “responsible” individuals for prosecution, he just might be telling the truth.

What’s that you say? No such firings and no prosecutions?

Hang him from a lamppost (politically).

Well, that shows real military-style courage and leadership doesn’t it? Blame the troops.

Well, fire a few thousand of them as a token of goodwill and then we'll talk.

He’s lucky to only be facing impeachment. He should be locked up.

This is the inverse of the Nuremberg Trial tactic "I vuz only followink orders!".

In this case, "My subordinates were given orders (from the White Crib to local IRA offices) to hector, harass, and suppress the TEA Party and the VRWC. I had NO idea. They destroyed evidence under my nose - yeah, I lied about it, but now I am claiming I never knew!"

Why don’t any of these subordinates ever get fired for this crap? Nobody working in the federal government ever loses their job. Total BS.

I took an INSTANT dislike of the guy during those hearings.

The smirk and the superior attitude was annoying as hell.

This is like the contractor who completely botched the job on your house asking you to hire him to fix the mess he made. Yeah, I’d go for that. /s
