NFL’s TV ratings still falling?

Posted on 09/20/2016 4:43:36 PM PDT by Hojczyk

Is it time for Roger Goodell and the NFL to hit the panic button?

Last week’s Sunday Night Football matchup drew in its lowest ratings in seven years (Monday Night Football didn’t fare any better) and last night’s game between the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings fell even further. According to Deadline, the primetime portion of last night’s game scored a 13.7/22 in Nielsen’s metered market ratings as the Vikings went on to beat the Packers 17-14. Not only is that down 18% from last year’s ratings, it’s also a 9% dip compared to the SNF opener just last week.

So what’s causing the sharp drop in interest? Clearly, many people have gotten turned off by the political protests during the national anthem, but The Guardian’s DJ Gallo argues that the play hasn’t been compelling enough to keep viewers watching:

The NFL has been a great escape for its fans from the larger problems of the world. The less of an escape the NFL provides, the more its fans will eventually find their own escape. Is that what we’re seeing now? It’s still too early to tell, but with the other issues hanging over the league, they may not want to wait for long to find out.

Maybe the MFL should follow Target’s lead and open all the ladies rooms in their stadiums to men. That should pick things up. LOL!

Nothing more boring than watching the Vikings and Packers play each other anyway. I swear it seems like we get Vikings/Packers games televised at least six times a season, and the Bears five times a season.

Remember when Bobby Bouche came back at half time and won the gator bowl?

That's the last game I watched.

In 1950, America's most popular sports were baseball, boxing and horse racing. In the decades since, the "four major sports" — baseball, basketball, football and hockey — have driven the mainstream sports conversation. History shows that America's sports agenda is always in flux. Just because one sport is dominant today doesn't mean it will remain on top indefinitely. The only constant is that tastes, preferences and sensibilities change. Football Will No Longer Be America's Favorite Pastime by 2050

Millennials ...

The black players have turned into prima donnas and they will now be told to suck eggs by the public.

Being a white, conservative, American, I simply am not their target audience. Screw ‘em.

Goodell just told the athletes to speak out on social issues, which means talking liberal. He doesn’t support the cops, the flag, or any conservative values, and his football sucks and is boring.

I guess Donald can’t bitch about the debates being opposite football games.

Football was a bastion of manliness and patriotism - so the left has infiltrated to co-opt or destroy it...

Beat ya. I haven’t watched football since Sonny Jurgenson was quarterback for the Redskins.

The NFL refused to let Limbaugh be part owner of a franchise.

They can Piss off.

I watch football because it is an escape from the rest of the media. Now that it is “infected” with the same BS, I won’t watch it. (Grabbing free E-Books) Goodall has a very serious problem, I don’t think this is temporary. You have to look at why people watch sports ... he could lose a key part of that demographics.

Getting the ball on the 25 yard line after a kick-off and talk of eliminating the kick off, suspending players for underinflated balls, wasting millions fighting it in court, not suspending players for disrespecting the national anthem and Roger Goodell’s other kooky ideas (teams in London and China) are turning the NFL into a joke.

The old axiom amongst players is that the NFL stands for Not For Long... Let’s hope that’s the case with Goodell.

Time for a new NFL Commissioner, before he fritters away the owners investments.

On Monday Night Football almost all of the commercials were acted by and directed at black people. It was as if white people didn’t exist.

The play on the field in no way resembled the great Steelers vs. Raiders games of the 1970’s. And the play-by-play announcers couldn’t carry the old MNF crew’s jocks either.

I turned the game off at half time and found something else to do.
