During a press conference yesterday morning, amid desperate efforts to placate political pressure to maintain the narrative of a lone-wolf bomber - not terrorist - who may have "had a beef" and just happened to be a muslim, William Sweeney, the assistant director in charge of the FBI's New York division, stated unequivocally:
"There is no indication that the suspect was on the FBI's terror radar" adding that there was "no indication that there's a [terrorist] cell operating" in the New York area and had no information about Ahmad Khan Rahami's "path to radicalization."
Phew - so we can rest assured that all the money spent on systems and surveillance was not wasted and this was perhaps just some mentally unstable man (who just happened to be Muslim and taken a trip or two to Afghanistan).
However,as Bloomberg reports, 24 hours later, The FBI has changed its tune...
Suspected N.Y.-N.J. bomber Ahmad Khan Rahami came across FBI's radar in response to 2014 domestic incident in which police complaint was made, according to U.S. law enforcement official.
Rahami was flagged in the FBI's Guardian system, which is a general database of tips and reports of suspicious activity, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the continuing investigation into the bombs set off in Manhattan and in New Jersey.
It wasn't immediately clear if Rahami was ever interviewed by the FBI.
Rahami was arrested in 2014 on weapons and aggravated assault charges for allegedly stabbing a relative in the leg in a domestic incident, according to court documents cited by the New York Times.

The feds are total walking screw-ups. If they admit he was on the radar, then why didn’t you monitor and prevent these attacks? If he was off the radar, why wasn’t he on the radar? You have the NSA illegally monitoring all sorts of communications and yet you can’t stop anything? And there may be several instances where attacks have been stopped but if it compromises an intell asset you keep quiet on screw-ups like this. How would one know since at this point anything and I mean anything the government says is suspect and one must take the line Reagan did with the Soviets, trust but verify where the US government is involved.
The FBI should be shut down.
All current employees should be barred from any future federal employment.
A new organization should be stood up, to focus solely on government corruption.
This stuff doesn’t end until bureaucrats live in fear.
