Explosive found in New York blast used for target shooting
The Herald ^ | SEPTEMBER 18, 2016 | ALICIA A. CALDWELL Associated Press

WASHINGTON Residue from an explosive compound found at the scene of an explosion in a New York City neighborhood is unregulated and routinely used for target practice with exploding targets.

The compound, known by the brand name Tannerite, is sold in sporting goods stores. It is not regulated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives because it is sold as a mix of two chemicals that when kept separate are inert.

Isn’t that the stuff that moron packed into an old lawn mower last year? Plugged the lawn mower with his rifle from about 50 feet away, went boom, and the mower blade came back at him and took off his leg.

That's it. Pretty difficult to detonate. A .22 Rimfire won't do it. You need to hit it with a high velocity centerfire rifle bullet.

As I recall the dummy in question was using either an AR or AK and couldn't get it to go boom so he got a closer to his target and then.........

Missed that in the news.

Earlier this year at the range a group from California came to try some and couldn't explode it because their guns were too small caliber to initiate the blast. Kind of funny. And expensive for them.

We are having more fun shooting fruit. My boys want to repeat all of the Mythbuster experiments. We've got a watermelon standing by for execution later this week. Pool is weather 22LR, 5.56, 380, or 9mm will be required. And challenge is to give all of us equal opportunity to make the perfect shot (without hitting the iPad nearby recording it).

I expect there will be a lot of stories about the availability of “dangerous high-power rifles that no one needs” that are so powerful they can set off explosives like Tannerite. It won’t matter that a gun was not used to set off the explosive and it will be forgotten that an Islamic terrorist cell was behind the bombing. It will be all about the evils of ordinary people who can go to a gun store and get dangerous high-power rifles and explosives.

Yes, and we discussed it at length here on FR.

Bingo.
All too often these mass casualty / terrorist events result in immediate attacks on conservatives and second ammendment rights.
Islam and Marxist-progressive democrats are the same:

Restrict freedom to defend yourselve and free speech.
Both ideologies hate us for our liberties.
And ironic the NY & NJ attacks happened on Constitution Day.

Would be fun if you added some Tannerite to the fruit. Bigger boom!

I kind of like that form of tree stump removal, though. We have several stumps thanks to the big winds a couple of years ago (down the road from you a bit).

Something doesn’t seem right here but when dealing with the press or their propaganda arm (MSM) nothing ever does. An explosive compound needs an initiator. The initiator for Tannerite is an impact by a projectile traveling a minimum of 2000 FPS. In fact Tannerite’s website explicitly says, “CAN NOT be initiated by ANY METHOD OTHER THAN a center fire rifle.” SO, have the hajis figured out an alternate method of initiation or are the MSM and FedGov lying to us? I’m leaning towards the latter and calling BS on their Tannerite claims.

And someone will turn this item used in a Muslim bombing into an attack on guns.

“It is not regulated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives because”.......

NOT regulated yet. My guess by weekend it will be along with ALL gun powder sales. Odumbo isn’t gonna let another opportunity slip by. Rush out and get your needs filled today, tomorrow may be too late.

I wonder if an airbag initiator would do the job.

Even an inbred Arab could figure out a way to remotely fire one of these things, and the muzzle velocity is well over 2,000 FPS.

Airbags are a chemical reaction triggered by an electric impulse, so the initiator wouldn’t do anything, and even the main charge only travels at about 300fps; the whole point of an airbag is to not injure the human it protects if at all possible.
