The baggage is stuff that would turn off a DEM voter.
The Federal RFRA was signed into law by president Bill Clinton.
Meanwhile, the Rockefeller Republicans (which is at least a substantial chunk of the GOPe, looks exactly like "Republican Main street" bunch) is still embracing policies of the Democrats.
Take It from a Rockefeller (Republican), We Can Revive the GOP
create a system where undocumented immigrants can work towards legal status, not citizenship. Acknowledge the dangers of climate change and promote a 20-30 year transitional path from fossil fuels to alternative energy sources, which includes a revenue neutral carbon tax. Close the gun-show loophole and expand the market for smart handguns that can only be used by their owners. Form a bipartisan commission on tax reform that will require two ironclad criteria: revenue neutrality and the guarantee that recommendations would receive only an up-or-down vote preventing riders and amendments ...NYT hitpiece of the day, Donald Trump, the Unsinkable CandidateOne note that was particularly moving was from a 25-year-old gay man named John, who preferred to remain anonymous. "I have found it very difficult to support the Republican Party, with the attractive free-market ideals clouded in divisive rhetoric and obstructionist tactics," he wrote. "As a gay person, I have also been repelled by the Party's socially conservative agenda. If the Republican Party wants to survive and gain the support of my generation, it needs to become the party of Reason. My generation is largely nonreligious, supportive of our diverse citizens (including race, sexual orientation, etc.) and solution focused. I hope Republican leaders will consider this going forward. Now is the perfect time to reinvent the Party."
When it comes to Mr. Trump, though, his enduring popularity is a mystery.
No mystery. Just embrace the deplorable!
Must be short on talking points, the first subject in the NYC bombing, with a sideshow on Graham's proposal to treat them (legally) as enemy combatants. FWIW, I am leery of this, although we already do have tiers of justice procedure including admin law courts, offenses where the burden is on the person to prove innocence; and hiding of government snooping activity is "the way it is," the only ramification of getting caught "snooping illegally" is evidence exclusion.
In the random thoughts department - when would Wikileaks leak again? Why not use the Friday afternoon news dump to advantage? Now, not in the usual way to “bury” the story from the public, but coincidentally, the first debate is next Monday. A wikileaks on Friday this week might preoccupy the Crooked campaign over the weekend, cutting into her debate prep. And on Monday, the leaks would still be in the news. A wild-card for the debate, especially if the leaked stuff is germane to the themes Lester Holt intends to play to.
