Eagles players plan protest during anthem Monday

THE NATIONAL conversation that began in the preseason when 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick elected to sit down for the national anthem will continue when the Eagles take the field Monday night in Chicago, veteran safety Malcolm Jenkins said.

Jenkins told 94 WIP radio hosts Glen Macnow and Jody McDonald Friday evening that he and teammates expect to make a symbolic gesture during the anthem.

"For me, it has nothing to do with this country, or the flag or the anthem itself - really, it's just to continue to push forward the conversation about social injustice . . . that's a range of things from police brutality to wages and job opportunities, education. It's just a lot of things systematically that have been set up in this country, since its inception, that really put minorities, especially African Americans, at a disadvantage, when you talk about quality of life, and actually growing in this country," Jenkins said.

"I'm going to keep that conversation going to as many people as we can, while also doing my part in bringing forth change. This has been a hot topic. The more players that join in, the further this conversation goes. After the intial shock of what Kaepernick did, and once everybody started to listen to what his message was, it's become a really good conversation that's gone along nationwide."

During the preseason, Jenkins supported undrafted Eagles rookie linebacker Myke Tavarres, who had announced plans to join in the Kaepernick protest a few days before the preseason finale, but was advised against it by his agent. Tavarres did not protest that night, then did not survive the final roster cuts.

I’d like to see an owner say “Protest on your own time. When you are on the field you are on company time. If you do this yo will be immediately suspended without pay and will not play until you issue an absolute apology.”

Owners are a wittle skeeeerd of the tantrum boys. All men should enmasse boycott NFL, sponsors, etc. That would shut all this crap down. Bottom line always does.

Barack Obama was campaigning in Philadelphia last week. This is all about fabricating a bullsh!t issue to motivate blacks in that city to get out to vote.

I'm guessing everyone in the Democrat Party knows that the rest of Pennsylvania is a complete disaster for Hillary Clinton.

They really want to kill the NFL, don’t they?

If the NFL cannot or will not stop this unending disrespect of the American spirit, in the name of some “social justice” which is a totally false expression of “equality”, then the rest of America is also justified in “shunning”. The NFL is TOTALLY dependent on the entertainment value they provide, and the advertising revenue it brings in.

Football as a sport is only now hanging by a thread, and it would take little more to simply snap it. The ratio of foot ball players, at the professional level, who have suffered long-term damage of their extremities, skeletal structure, or head trauma, is fast becoming legion, and several major lawsuits against the management of the teams have become a new and quite lucrative source of income for a special breed of lawyers. Their dissent with the way football is played is being taken up by a certain minority of persons whose sensibilities have been assaulted by the very existence of a competitive sport like football, thinking it is not “fair” that some teams win and other teams lose, and besides, many aspects of football resemble warlike combat.

And war is bad, doncha know.

Weren't 2 officers just shot in filthadelphia, one of them killed, by a negro?

They might want to rethink this.

I’m not a sports person in any way, but aren’t there a lot of Italian Americans in the Philly area? Seems they’re some of the most patriotic people in the country. Would they tolerate the team disrespecting the Anthem and the flag? (I truly don’t know; just asking.)

They don’t know Philadelphia sports fans too well, their antics won’t go over too well there.

You do have to give Colin Kaepernick some slack on all of this. whoever named him decided to name him after an unflattering body part and then didn’t even spell it correctly, so he’s been dealing with issues all of his life.

Stop paying attention to the children when they throw a tantrum.

They are throwing out red meat to a lot of people. No one is going to do anything about this. But getting worked up will achieve nothing.

When “they” can articulate what they are protesting, we can listen. But to date they haven’t.

IIRC Laura Ingraham wrote a book discussing showbiz types in politics called "Shut Up And Sing".I think we need a followup called "Shut Up And Play".

Your two posts contain the two key points. IF ticket sales and/or tv audience share is significantly impacted, THEN owners or the league will stop this.

I would have some respect for the SJW jocks if their “symbolic gestures” were based on genuine, wide-spread, government-sanctioned social and political oppression. Instead, they’ve decided to advance and embrace BLM lies. Let them forfeit their cushy, well-paid “jobs”.
