It was an old auto trail - dates back to the early 1900’s.
Apparently Arlington County thought it required the Virginia General Assembly’s approval to change the name.

I have lived here 50 years and always thought it kinda weird that they named the road after him.

You really don't understand the South or the War Between the States?

Read a good biography of Robert E. Lee or watch the movie "Gods & Generals". Perhaps that will give you some insight.

Right after the end of WWII we ended up living in Oakland, CA. And where we lived was a nice “all white” neighborhood. Now it’s all minority. The main drag out to East Oakland ( were all the killings that put Oakland way up on the list used to be called East 14th St. Now it’s called International Blvd., and if you have to go there today, you need a black friend or a gun. Preferably both, and he probably should be armed as well.

I hope they leave the Confederate memorial statue in Alexandria alone.

Will be interesting to hear their recommendations for renaming.

U.S. Route 1 would be a possibility.

It is already Route 1, and many people in my area refer to it as such. We also have a Business Rt 1, so people will distinguish between the two by using the other names, Jeff Davis vs Lafayette.

The Four Olds or the Four Old Things (simplified Chinese: 四旧; traditional Chinese: 四舊; pinyin: sì jiù) were Old Customs, Old Culture, Old Habits, and Old Ideas. One of the stated goals of the Cultural Revolution in the People's Republic of China was to bring an end to the Four Olds.

There's actually an abortomat in Lewisboro, WV, the Robert C. Byrd women's health clinic.

What in WV is *not* named after Robert C. Byrd?
