Quit crabbing: Obama creates major no-go zone for fishermen in the Atlantic
fox news politics ^ | 09/152016 | George Russell

President Barack Obama has created a 4,900 square mile no-go zone for commercial fishing and other activity off the coast of New England as the first-ever Atlantic marine monument, a move loudly hailed by many environmentalists, but drawing strong protests from the fishing industry as well as causing discomfort among some prominent Democratic politicians whose constituents are affected.

According to the White House, the newly protected zone, which focuses on a section of the lip of the continental shelf near the fishing grounds of Georges Bank, “includes three underwater canyons deeper than the Grand Canyon and four underwater mountains known as ‘seamounts’ that are biodiversity hotspots and home to many rare and endangered species.”

....the future could well hold additional White House actions. The Atlantic monument designation was the Administration’s show-piece for a State Department-hosted Our Ocean conference that applauded similar marine preserves established by other countries and encouraged still more in the future.

All of them, and more, would be required to meet a U.N.-sponsored Sustainable Development Goal to protect 10 per cent of the world’s oceans by 2020.

Indeed, at the conference, preserve proponents declared that at least 600 new protected ocean areas would be needed to come half-way close to that goal—and that a better objective might be 30 per cent or even 40 percent of the world’s oceans.

It would make a great reaching out to muzzl'em fisherman. Aren't any? I'm sure obama would be happy to buy the boats of the unemployed American lobster crews and give them to the muzzl'ems and provide free training and tax breaks.

and i HATE every american that voted for him

Yep. Hate. could POSSIBLY forgive those who vote for Trump now.

Those who vote clinton, they are my enemy.

Yes. possibly 40ish percent of the country i will consider a non hostile (for now) enemy.

Can’t even stomach the one person that shows up at family parties who is an obama lover.

Overfishing is a serious problem. It is difficult to solve when international waters suffer from the Tragedy of the Commons. We stop, no one else does. I don’t know the answer.

While I believe Obama’s action on this is illegal because it hasn’t been passed by Congress, there is some validity to having no fishing areas interspersed throughout heavily fished areas. This allows for safe, undisturbed breeding grounds for fish and other animals to prosper and multiply. The surplus population in these areas spills out into the fishing grounds. At the end of the day a 70x70 mile area is not all that big.

This is a policy that needs to be debated and decided upon in Congress and signed by the president into law as a comprehensive plan, not as a political stunt by a d-bag like Obama.

They can rope off all they want but they can't protect fishies from other fishies. Do these idiots realize how many fish exist in the oceans? It is an amazing renewable resource and no matter how many fish are taken by man the fish will come back. That doesn't mean there should not be management and restrictions at times

The Georges Bank was historically our most productive fishery in years past until over-fishing curtailed harvesting. Perhaps they’ve recovered sufficiently to allow more fishing there but with the current anti-American Muslim Marxist killing our fellow citizen’s jobs, I doubt it.

Democrats no longer need blue collar voters. They’ve successfully transfered enough Americans over to the welfare rolls that they can do whatever they want to destroy industry and slackers will cheer.

One reason why I like this election, is that it manifests the hearts of those who are truly ignorant or arrogant criminals in our society.

I see no possible way an honest and honorable person who attempts to study the candidates at all, would even tolerate Hillary and her minions.

“Overfishing” is a political term coined by envorowackos in the late 60s as part of its war on natural resource harvesters. There is no such thing in reality as “overfishing.” Commercial fishing is heavily regulated and at time fishermen needed to take lawyers along for the trip.

Sportfishing on the other hand is a derby fight for the last fish.

No. And there is nothing to like in a person that would vote to have their own country destroyed.

They are traitors, and traitors are the enemy.

Some on the other side are already talking of open rebellion if Trump wins.

He is also grabbing 87,000 acres in Maine formerly owned by a relative of the founder of Bert’s Bees. Apparently it takes an Act of Congress to undo a Monument designation. But, it has been done before.
They can kick the Stonewall Gay Bar National Monument status to the curb at the same time. That put a gay beer joint in the same revered category as the Grand Canyon. The Grand Junction Colorado Mesa, The Lincoln Memorial, and the Washington Monument.
