A 26-year-old man has been arrested in the East Harlem mugging of a 93-year-old woman in a wheelchair.
Authorities say Broyoan Lopez, of Brooklyn, is charged with robbery, grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property.
The NYPD Warrant Squad reportedly picked him up near Grand Central Terminal just before 7 a.m. Friday.
"He hurt me, he hurt me right there and in the arm right there," victim Maria Vasquez said. "Because I tried to grab him, but he pushed my arm away. And that's where I got hurt."
Vasquez was just trying to buy slippers from Regine's on East 116th Street in Harlem on Friday when police say Lopez stuck his hands in her bra and took the $600 in Social Security money that she had cashed a few doors down.
It bothered the store owner Josh Cohen so much that he cut a $600 check and gave it to Vasquez Friday afternoon, and he threw the slippers in for free.
Just an hour earlier, Lopez had left the 25th Precinct in handcuffs.

That it can. Lived here all of my 50+ years. Just when you're about to give up on New Yorkers, you hear a story like this. Then again, it's not any NYers that would come to the aid of their fellow man or woman. For example, I doubt a so-called "Hipster" would ever jump a help anyone in a situation like this. At most, they'll probably film it on their cellphone. Then post it on some social media site.

My experience in NYC is that people always come to the aid of someone in distress. I’ve never seen it fail. The only time I’ve seen personal responsibility fail was in Los Angeles once and London once.
I’ve never, ever seen a New Yorker walk by a person in distress and ignore it. Never. I have many lovely memories of NYers picking sick people up from the sidewalk, waiting by the side of an auto accident, etc. These are the same people who refuse to acknowledge you when you pass them by in the halls of an apartment building! Go figure!
Lesson learned: A Hispanic thief attacks an elderly Hispanic woman and robs her. A Jewish businessman who knew her helps her out.
Where I come from this is called two things:
“Obama/Hillary’s immigration plan in action” and
“True, human kindness in action regardless of race, religion or ethnic background”.

Puzzled over the pronunciation of that for a bit and decided that maybe the “o should be silent”? LOL. It’s no wonder people can no longer spell anything correctly.
Throw a knife to him, and shoot him 3x center mass. No need to waste taxpayers’ monies on the POS.

What prescription are your eyeglasses? Because I'd say about 80% of people here wouldn't lift a finger. Sure there are good people among the thousands that would, but many more apparently couldn't give a rat's rear end about anyone but themselves, or are too unobservant to even notice a problem. I see it all day long in Manhattan. In the outer boroughs there is a better chance of people coming to someone's aid, at least when it involves a street crime such as a mugging.

I have 20-20. I’ve never seen a NYer turn up anyone in distress on the streets of NYC. Going on 40 years. You have your experiences, I have mine.

I think what you mean and what you're saying are two different things. Because you can't possibly mean you've never seen any NYer NOT stop and help someone in trouble?
...I think you mean, that EVENTUALLY someone will help.
Why are you so determined to make me say something I don’t believe? I will say it AGAIN AND YOU CAN TAKE IT HOME: I have never seen a New Yorker turn down a person in distress on the streets of New York.
