I think there is a lot too this. A lot of older Jews remember being dominated socially by Christian zealots in the past, and they still resent it. Their families have subsequently followed their political preferences.
For a long time, the Republican party was/is seen as unabashedly pro-Christian, and so it creates an aversion to siding with them.
The Orthodox vote Republican in large majorities, but they are the more stringent religiously, and they appear to see Christians as their political allies, not adversaries.
The good news is that the Orthodox are gaining in strength because they are making babies, while liberal and secular Jews are waning in strength because they are not.

The National socialists were bad, but when it comes to even larger events of mass murder, the INTERNATIONAL SOCIALISTS were far worse.
But I think this is an emotional thing, not a logical one. The left has spent years tagging the Nazis as "Right Wing", and in the minds of most of the public they have successfully distracted attention from the fact that the Nazis were "Left Wing" socialists.
With this false understanding widely spread, people cannot overcome their memories of the horrible events perpetrated by those whom they believe to be "Right Wing."
There are lots. I don't remember which are which other than a few like "Jewbacca" and "Hopalong Ginsburg" because they make a funny to remind us, but there are many, and I regard them as brethren.
I have a hard time supporting US Jews when they are so politically blind and so anti-Israel.

It is the same parallel to the blacks voting Rat. Will anyone ever figure this out? It must be a mental disease thingy. Are the Jews being paid off as well? If so, it is not as obvious as the gibsmeedats.
Feel the same way about liberal Christians who vote left?
AFAIK, it was the USSR that first called national socialists “right wing”, mainly in contrast to themselves.
Also, these days we have Islamic socialism, which is another form of national socialism.
Within the first few weeks of my joining FreeRepublic, and on this very topic, I made some disparaging comments about the US Jews voting the way they do. I was immediately banned. I than learned about some very influential and wonderful conservative Jews on this site. :-)

The Bolsheviks always referred to the Mensheviks as the “Right wing” in their disputes. Both were of the Russian Social Democratic Labor Party. The Mensheviks just weren’t bloodthirsty enough for Lenin and his crew. The Mensheviks were considered collaborators because they worked with others and played nice.
