Donald Trump — the modern day Paul Revere — rocked the political world when he jumped into the race last year warning about the invasion across America’s southern border that politicians in both parties had been desperately trying to cover up for years. Actually, Revere did not have it nearly so hard as Mr. Trump, who was branded a bigot and a racist and anti-American for simply arguing that America should enforce our duly-enacted immigration laws and secure our border.
Mr. Trump stuck with the issue and rode it all the way to the Republican nomination.
Granted, Mr. Trump always does things his own way. Such as when he celebrated Cinco de Mayo by posing for picture eating a taco bowl from Trump Tower, giving a thumbs-up and pronouncing: “I love Hispanics!” Not exactly a campaign strategy taught at the Georgetown University for Politicians.
Call it Taco Bowl Diplomacy. But, apparently, it works!
Mr. Trump swooped into Mexico City on short notice Wednesday to meet with Mexico’s president, Enrique Pena Nieto, who has compared Mr. Trump to Adolf Hitler. Mr. Pena Nieto left the private meeting saying he is “certain” that Mr. Trump’s “genuine interest is to build a relationship that might lead us to provide both our societies better conditions.”
So, just like Hitler viewed Germany and Poland. Either that or Mr. Pena Nieto is just the latest victim of the lies and smears by the U.S. media and the dishonest political class.
Mr. Pena Nieto acknowledged the “fundamental right that each of the countries has to defend its border.” Talking like that Mr. Pena Nieto would get kicked out of the Democratic Party in the U.S.....

Peace brings prosperity, and that's what Trump (and I) want. Get the US out of the Middle East. Let them solve their own problems. Let's focus on the domestic economy.

I’ve already posted in a couple of threads on this general topic...
I watched the press conference live, and thought it was excellent. With all the bashing Trump has been taking from the media, he’s doing really well, but I think some of the people commenting may be right, yesterday was a turning point, get used to saying President Trump.
Trump went to Mexico into a hostile atmosphere, especially with the press blowing his comments out of proportion to make him look like the biggest racist and bigot to ever walk the valley of the shadow of death. He came out of it smelling like roses and with what looks like the start of a positive diplomatic relationship with our closest and most controversial neighbor.
I was very impressed, and vindicated, I’ve said all along he will get along with world leaders better than most people may think. You don’t think he made billion$ building high rise hotels all over the world without learning how to deal with foreign leaders do you? (not you in particular, people in general) And Trump delivered. He looked more like a statesman and diplomat than any politician I’ve seen in many years.
I noticed he was reading from a written speech. I wonder who helped him write it in record time, it was excellent. Probably Giuliani, he was along for the ride and probably the two put their heads together for that speech, and it was a humdinger.
And of course, who pays for the wall is a topic that is not and should not be on the table for now, it’s a topic better left for later. Trump is not yet an elected official authorized to commit this country’s resources to any sort of financial agreements with any party, so discussing it later is the right choice. This was a preliminary meeting, not a finalization of any agreements. Any of the stuffed suits on TV claiming he “choked” is intentionally distracting attention from the primary topic. They know he is in no position to even discuss those details at this time...he made the right choice. As usual.
I didn’t hear last night’s speech, going to have to look it up and watch later. I was online only half listening. But from what I heard yesterday, I don’t think Hillary has a chance any more. Trump just upstaged her big time, kept his name in the news, and at least with those who were watching, definitely made the transition from businessman/reality star to diplomat. I’ll even go as far as to say world class diplomat.

I’ve thought about him since Mr. Trump gave this speech....I should not assume, but I’m pretty sure he would love it! We sure love and miss him. We would have NEVER gotten here without the hard work and sacrifice he made for years! Before Trump, Terry was the only one who gave the families of children murdered by aliens a forum to speak.

A lot of the credit for the Pena/Mex meeting where Donald scored BIG is going to KellyAnne and Steve.....so maybe the speech is part of that triumph.
Ironically, in Mexico, the source of so many problems, is where Donald showed the world his presidential creds.

The second clause of this sentence is not true either.
Unfortunately, many citizens came to agree with that sentiment over time, seeking to come to terms with the huge death toll, societal ruin, and sundry horrors of the Great War (as the First World War was known, prior to the Second World War). They were aided and abetted by the chattering classes.
In the United States, Senator Gerald Nye (R-ND) exploited the sentiment, making political hay by holding special Senatorial investigations on the topic. Widely noted in the press, at times cheered on by the public, the Senator ascended to the heights of popularity - aided by anti-war activists, nativists, pressies, and Progressive intellectuals.
Having made something of a name for himself in the early 1920s as a moralizing crusader, in this investigation his arguments, theories, and lines of investigation held no historical merit, contained more allegations than facts, and at times approached the nonsensical. Public sympathy remained favorable; he entered the ranks of the permanently notorious for coining the phrase “merchants of death” for a 1934 speech.
Ironically, Nye sailed on, unmoored to reality, until sordid partisan politics did him in. In 1936, he trotted out accusations against the late President T. Woodrow Wilson. By then, the entire effort had devolved into flippantly flung allegations of conspiracy. The Democrats had had enough. Goaded by their protests, the Senate voted to defund Nye’s special committee.

That seems odd to me, but perceptions are what they are. But as you say that’s no longer your opinion.
For me Dubya is the poster boy for a politician blundering into an ill-advised and unnecessary war, the invasion of Iraq for the purpose of deposing Saddam Hussein. A war that Trump presciently warned would destabilize the Middle East. It’s my opinion that Hillary is likely to repeat Dubya’s bad judgement, which is why she’s now supported by some of Dubya’s old neocon gang.
Trump by contrast wants to discourage the outbreak of war by repeating Reagan’s Peace through Strength policy. Obama’s purposeful weakening of America’s military has made the world a far more dangerous place where global troublemakers don’t fear the possibility of paying a huge price for acting ugly. Should Trump win I look for ISIS to learn a very hard lesson very quickly, but other than that I don’t see Trump looking for dragons to slay.

I think about Terry all the time. He was one of my heroes. I never missed his show. I’m sorry he didn’t live long enough to see Trump come along, and to hear that speech last night. Well, maybe he saw it from heaven. Maybe he had a ringside seat.
RIP, Terry. They’re calling Trump “Paul Revere,” but you were a Paul Revere before he was.
