White-clad opposition supporters from all corners of Venezuela were descending on Caracas on Thursday for rallies intended to press for a recall referendum this year against unpopular socialist President Nicolas Maduro.

With protestors coming in from the Amazon jungle to the western Andes, the opposition hopes a million people will gather in a show of anger at Maduro and Venezuela's deep economic crisis.

Maduro, 53, says the opposition-dubbed "Takeover of Caracas", disguises a US-fomented coup plan, akin to a short-lived 2002 putsch against his mentor and predecessor Hugo Chavez.

Edgy authorities arrested some well-known activists in the run-up, with 13 opposition campaigners and supporters still in custody, according to a local rights group.

Extra police and troops were being positioned across the chaotic city, and roadblocks were expected......

"We have to come out and fight for a free Venezuela! We can't take this anymore," said Elizabeth De Baron, 69. a secretary planning to leave Guarenas town before dawn to drive the roughly 25 miles (40km) into Caracas.....

Opposition blogger Daniel Duquenal is expecting government provocateurs to show up and start violence that will be blamed on the opposition during today's scheduled protest.

Many arrests have been made in recent days.

Foreign journalists have been denied entry into the country or expelled to prevent them from reporting on today's mass protest that the opposition hopes will bring a million people onto the streets of Caracas.

With communists ruling with an iron fist, there will be no referendum until the earth is scorched.

The country is being ruled by incompetent thugs who will not willingly yield their power over the people.

God Bless the opposition and keep them safe from the violence sure to come from a corrupt, godless, and insane government.

Are you talking about Venezuela or DC?

Say!

Didn’t this same tactic take place at the RNC this year?

There have been some checkpoints set up to slow traffic movement around the city of Caracas and subway stations have been closed.

The live stream of Globovision has been disrupted in the last few hours and the pro-regime Telesur channel says a ‘right wing march threatens violence’.

You voted for the mess in which you are living. Get over it.

They voted for it, but now they are out in the streets a million at a time, time and time again to protest it.

They will be out on the streets again next week (September 7th).

Too many people rely on politics and voting as a means to save them and haven’t figured out our Uniparty politicians are leading us down the road to a tyranny of the corporatist elites making.

I’m voting for Trump, but he’s only one man and 98.99 percent or more of the elected officials will do nothing to stop things from happening.

WE NEED MORE THAN VOTING TO DEAL WITH THE ENEMY IN THIS COUNTRY, TOO........
